The countdown has officially begun for the fashion industry’s biggest event, the Met Gala 2026. It’s a night where couture meets culture, and the world’s most powerful style statements come alive on the starry red carpet.

With just weeks to go, anticipation is building around the theme, the guest list, and where to live-watch it.
Often dubbed “fashion’s biggest night”, the Met Gala is the annual fundraising event for The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute.

Timed to mark the opening of its spring exhibition, the gala blends philanthropy with high fashion. The event consistently raises whopping sums every year in fundraising. Last year, it broke all records collecting approximately $31 million, making it the most successful edition in its 77-year history.
The Met Gala 2026 will take place on Monday, May 4. With that it continues with its long-standing tradition of being held on the first Monday of May.

The Costume Institute’s spring 2026 showcase, titled ‘Costume Art’, explores the significance of the dressed body within the museum’s vast collection. The exhibition is set to feature nearly 400 pieces, including around 200 garments and accessories alongside an equal number of paintings, sculptures, and decorative objects.

Curated by Andrew Bolton, the display is structured around recurring interpretations of the human form, spanning themes such as the “Naked Body,” “Classical Body,” “Pregnant Body,” “Aging Body,” “Anatomical Body,” and “Mortal Body.”
The 2026 Met Gala will be led by co-chairs Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Anna Wintour. Carrying forward its long-standing format, the event will also feature a host committee, co-chaired by Anthony Vaccarello and Zoë Kravitz.

The wider committee brings together cultural figures from different walks of life, including Adut Akech, Sinéad Burke, Sabrina Carpenter, Angela Bassett, Doja Cat, Gwendoline Christie, Alex Consani, Elizabeth Debicki, Misty Copeland, Lena Dunham, Paloma Elsesser, Rebecca Hall, LISA, Chloe Malle, Aimee Mullins, Amy Sherald, Tschabalala Self, Sam Smith, Teyana Taylor, Anna Weyant, Lauren Wasser, A’ja Wilson, Chase Sui Wonders, and Yseult.

As principal sponsors of both the gala and the accompanying exhibition, Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos will serve as honorary chairs.
This year’s dress code, “Fashion Is Art,” invites attendees to blurr the boundaries between clothes and artwork. Expect sculptural silhouettes, museum-worthy ensembles, and red carpet moments that double as cultural commentary.
While the red carpet dazzles the world, what unfolds inside remains largely hidden.

A strict no-phone policy ensures exclusivity. But the evening usually includes cocktails, a formal dinner, exhibition viewing, and performances.
The Met Gala takes place at the iconic The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

Nearby luxury hotels like The Mark Hotel and The Carlyle become hotspots for celebrity sightings, turning the entire neighbourhood into a pre-show runway.
With a guest list capped at around 450 attendees, the Met Gala invitations are among the most exclusive invites in the world. The event brings together a dynamic mix of people from various fields like fashion, films, sports, art, politics, and cultural spectrum. Previously, guests like Blake Lively, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Rihanna have made headlines for their showstopping dresses at the past editions of Met Gala.
