Inside Imran Khan’s Net Worth, Self-Designed Farmhouse and Life Away From Bollywood

Imran Khan has been asked to leave India by October 28 following his participation in a Mumbai protest. As the Bollywood actor makes headlines, a look at his estimated net worth, Mumbai homes, self-designed farmhouse, minimalist lifestyle and personal life, including his relationship with actor and designer Lekha Washington

In 2008, Imran Khan became the face of a new kind of Hindi film hero. ‘Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na’ turned him into a heartthrob, earned roughly Rs 83 crore worldwide and won him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. By 2011, he had followed it up with ‘Delhi Belly’ and ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’.

After ‘Katti Batti’ in 2015, however, Khan stepped away from the spotlight. He returned to the screen with a cameo in ‘Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos’ in January 2026, but on October 15, the actor made headlines for a different reason. Mumbai Police reportedly issued him a notice directing him to leave India by October 28, following his participation in a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

As the development puts his personal life back in the public eye, his finances, Mumbai homes and self-designed house outside the city offer a glimpse into the life he has built away from Bollywood.

Imran Khan’s Net Worth

Some online estimates put Khan’s net worth at around Rs 100 crore and his career does offer some context for his earnings. Following the success of his early films, Khan reached 40th place on the Forbes India Celebrity 100 list in 2013, which considered both income and fame. He has also spoken about feeling financially secure by the age of 30, a position that helped him reconsider whether he wanted to continue acting as a full-time career.

His subsequent lifestyle choices suggest that material accumulation was not his only priority. Reports have described how he sold his Ferrari and moved away from a large bungalow as he reassessed his needs and priorities. In 2013, Khan, his then-wife Avantika Malik and his mother reportedly purchased four acres of land with plans to develop an animal shelter.

His lifestyle has increasingly centred on simplicity, personal space and a more deliberate approach to the things he owns.

Pali Hill to Minimalist Living

For much of his early adult life, Khan’s home was associated with Pali Hill, the leafy Bandra neighbourhood known for its film-industry residents. Following his wedding to Avantika Malik in January 2011, renovation work began on the family bungalow, prompting the couple to move temporarily. They reportedly staued at Avantika’s mother’s home on Perry Cross Road, followed by a rented flat on Hill Road.

By around 2019, Khan had moved out of the Pali Hill bungalow and into a smaller apartment in Bandra. He has described starting over in a space that was almost empty, gradually acquiring furniture and other objects only when he felt he needed them. The idea was to understand what genuinely contributed to his happiness rather than fill a home simply because there was room for more things.

In an interview with Film Companion, he spoke about how this approach had made his life easier. His home was not organised around a large household staff, either. Someone came in every other day to take care of heavier cleaning.

Khan and Lekha Washington had reportedly leased a three-storey apartment on Carter Road, previously associated with filmmaker Karan Johar, for approximately Rs 9 lakh a month under a three-year agreement. Khan reportedly declined to confirm or deny the details when asked about the arrangement.

Together, however, the reports illustrate the different Mumbai residences associated with him over the years, as well as his reported preference for a more understated way of living.

A Home Shaped by Nature

In June 2024, Khan offered a glimpse of a house he had designed himself on a plot outside Mumbai. Set on uneven ground between two seasonal streams, near the base of a cliff and oriented towards the sunset, the property reflected an approach to architecture that placed the surrounding landscape at the centre of the design.

The house is often described online as Khan’s Karjat farmhouse, although he has not publicly confirmed the precise location.

Rather than begin construction immediately, he spent the first year visiting the site, observing its changing conditions and revisiting his sketches. He watched the sunrises and sunsets, the streams during the monsoon and the changing foliage before deciding how the house should sit within its surroundings. The guiding idea was to let the landscape determine the design, with the building serving as a shelter from which to experience the view rather than compete with it.

The construction choices followed the same principle of restraint. Working with a contractor and a structural engineer, Khan opted for a local building method rather than a conventional concrete slab. The single-storey structure uses brick walls raised on a stone plinth, steel roof beams and prefabricated insulated roofing sheets.

The project offers a different take on celebrity real estate. Rather than focusing on a property’s market value or its list of amenities, the house reflects an interest in the relationship between architecture, nature and everyday living. Its appeal lies in the thought behind its design as much as in the setting itself.

Family, Fatherhood and Design

Born on January 13, 1983, in Madison, Wisconsin, Khan is the son of software engineer Anil Pal and psychologist Nuzhat Khan. He is the grandson of filmmaker Nasir Hussain and the nephew of actors and filmmakers Aamir Khan and Mansoor Khan. As a child, he appeared as the younger version of Aamir in ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’ and ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar’. Before his Bollywood debut, he studied filmmaking at the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles.

Khan married his longtime girlfriend, Avantika Malik, on January 10, 2011, in a private civil ceremony at Aamir Khan’s Pali Hill residence. Their daughter, Imara, was born on June 9, 2014. The couple began living separately in 2019 and subsequently divorced.

Fatherhood has been an important part of Khan’s account of his personal reset. He reportedly wanted to become a better version of himself for his daughter. His decision to step away from acting and reassess his lifestyle has also been linked to this period of personal change.

In 2024, Khan confirmed his relationship with actor and product designer Lekha Washington. Known for her work in Tamil cinema, Lekha also runs the Mumbai design label Ajji. Her practice spans product design and sculptural work, including ‘Chand’, a steel moon orb installed near Carter Road. She works from a restored 150-year-old bungalow in Bandra’s Ranwar Village, according to publicly available biographical accounts.

Khan has spoken about Lekha’s role in their decision to live together, explaining that she first suggested the arrangement. After being together for some time, he saw little reason not to take that step.

His life today cannot be reduced to a single net-worth estimate or a property portfolio. His career brought him commercial success early, while his subsequent choices have included stepping away from films, simplifying his living arrangements and designing a home around the natural landscape. With the latest notice from Mumbai Police placing him back in the headlines, those choices offer a wider view of the actor beyond his screen persona.
