Just when fans thought they had spotted Sydney Sweeney stepping into the glossy, high-fashion world of The Devil Wears Prada 2, a surprising twist has emerged. The Euphoria star, who was photographed heading to the film’s set in 2025, has reportedly been chucked out from the Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt starrer sequel.

What seemed like a blink-and-you-miss cameo has now turned into a full-blown mystery.
According to a report by Entertainment Weekly, Sweeney had filmed a brief appearance that was supposed to appear in a 3-minute scene in the beginning of the much-anticipated film.

The plot of The Devil Wears Prada 2 goes like this; Andy Sachs (Hathaway), now a seasoned journalist, crosses paths once again with Miranda Priestly and Nigel Kipling as they meet to rescue Runway magazine from an upcoming collapse triggered by scandal. They reach out to former assistant Emily Charlton (Blunt), who now works as head of Dior’s U.S. operations.

But here’s the twist. Early cuts of the film reportedly show a scene inside Dior, where “Sweeney appeared in a scene that expanded upon Emily’s introduction, and saw her at work dressing a celebrity client, with Sweeney playing herself,” says EW. However, the sequence never made it to the final edit, as it didn’t align with the “structure” of the film. Sources suggest the team appreciated Sweeney’s involvement, making the cut a difficult but needed call.
The timing of the cut has raised eyebrows, especially given the backlash Sweeney faced in 2025 over an American Eagle campaign. The ad, which described her as having “great jeans”. It sparked a debate online, where critics accused her of playing on the word “genes” to promote white superiority or eugenics.

Addressing the controversy, Sweeney said, “I was honestly surprised by the reaction. I did it because I love the jeans and love the brand. I don’t support the views some people chose to connect to the campaign. Many have assigned motives and labels to me that just aren’t true.” While there is no confirmed link between the controversy and her removal from the film, the coincidence has certainly fueled speculation.

Even without the cameo, Sweeney’s stardom is peaking. She recently returned to teen drama Euphoria for its third season, continuing the role that cemented her global stardom. Meanwhile, *The Devil Wears Prada 2* is in the news for the film’s star-studded premiere and includes a cameo by Lady Gaga. The pop sensation also contributes to the soundtrack with the track ‘Runway.’
