Jewels in the Spotlight: The Statement Pieces Debuting at Venice Film Festival 2026

The 83rd Venice Film Festival runs from September 2 to 12 on the island of Lido di Venezia. Once again, the city’s canals have turned into a runway for cinema’s biggest names. This year, the jewellery is doing as much talking as the gowns. Between star-studded premieres and photocalls, high jewellery houses are staking their claim on the red carpet.

Each look proves how a single piece can define an entire outfit. Statement necklaces, sculptural earrings and intricate diamond creations are adding another layer of glamour to the festival’s most photographed moments. With Hollywood stars and fashion’s biggest names stepping out in pieces worth millions, Venice is once again proving that the right jewel can command the spotlight.

Old-World Glamour, Reimagined

Jury president Maggie Gyllenhaal set the tone on opening night. She wore a black Celine gown paired with a Bulgari Serpenti necklace. Its black enamel and diamond coils wrapped around her collar like a modern-day heirloom.

Laura Dern arrived in a cotton-candy pink Prada dress to present George Clooney with his Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement. She finished the look with feather-inspired Cartier diamond and gemstone jewels, styled by Elizabeth Stewart.

Amal Clooney stood by her husband’s side for the honor. She rounded out her Tom Ford by Haider Ackermann look with Cartier jewels of her own.

Claire Foy brought a softer edge to the carpet in Bottega Veneta styled with Swarovski jewels. It proved crystal can hold its own alongside precious stones when the design is confident.

New Faces, Bold Sparkle

Nina Dobrev, Rupert Friend and singer Hayes Warner all turned to Chopard the same Wednesday. Dobrev wore Happy Diamonds earrings set with over four carats of round brilliant-cut diamonds. She paired them with two emerald-cut diamond rings from the L’Heure Du Diamant collection, totalling nearly fifteen carats.

Warner went bolder still. She chose Haute Joaillerie earrings mixing asscher and pear-cut diamonds for a combined 37-plus carats, plus a heart-and-diamond ring and a nine-carat L’Heure Du Diamant piece, all in 18-karat white gold.

Kendall Jenner turned heads at the “Wild Horse Nine” screening in a vintage Giorgio Armani gown. She offset it with eight-carat cushion-cut diamond drop earrings from independent jeweller Briony Raymond, a nod to the red carpet’s growing appetite for names beyond the usual heritage houses. Chase Sui Wonders layered on the Tiffany & Co. archives at the “Ink” opening. She mixed a Jean Schlumberger Ailsa aquamarine ring with a Bird on a Rock Wings ring, then pinned the brand’s iconic Bird on a Rock brooch to a ribbon around her neck. The brooch was set with a diamond of over 13 carats and a pink sapphire.

This year’s Mostra favors singular, sculptural pieces over matchy-matchy sets: a serpent coil, a pinned brooch, a stack of rings. Each one does the work of an entire outfit. As premieres continue through September 12, expect more houses to unveil their Venice-exclusive pulls. The jewellery conversation looks set to stay as lively as the festival’s film slate itself.
