Their contrasting visions transformed couture into a language of emotion, history and craftsmanship as India Couture Week 2026 arrived at its grand finale.
Designer Aisha Rao’s ‘Priyasi’ and Rahul Mishra’s ‘Devi’ brought the season to a memorable close, proving that couture can be as much about storytelling as it is about the garments themselves.
Timeless Tales of Love
Aisha Rao transformed the runway into an immersive world where history, literature, mythology and cinema converged. Monumental tulips emerged across the space as symbols of enduring love, while layered lighting, music and live performances dissolved the boundaries between fashion and theatre.
For ‘Priyasi’, which translates to ‘beloved’ in English language, Rao explored the emotions that transcend time: longing, remembrance and union. The collection drew inspiration from iconic muses who embody feminine mystique, including Umrao Jaan’s Amiran, Bajirao’s Mastani and Utsav’s Rekha as Vasantasena.
She also looked towards timeless narratives from the West, including Pride and Prejudice, Anna Karenina and the mythology of Adam and Eve, drawing from the universal emotions that continue to shape human experiences across generations.
Rather than recreating these stories, Rao distilled their emotional essence into contemporary couture. Her signature polychromatic appliqué work, layered embroideries and sculptural silhouettes found new expression through richly textured surfaces. Botanical motifs bloomed across the garments, while the thoughtful use of bio-based materials such as bio-resham and bio-badla reflected the designer’s commitment to purposeful luxury.
The evening culminated in a quietly poignant moment as every model carried a tulip, symbolising hope, solidarity and humanity’s enduring ability to bloom even in uncertain times. Rao also unveiled a fine jewellery line in collaboration with Shree Jewellers, extending the language of ‘Priyasi’ beyond couture.
Craftsmanship Seen Up Close
Rahul Mishra offered audiences something rarely seen on a couture runway: intimacy. This was not a conventional fashion show. Models stood gracefully donning pieces from ‘Devi’, the collection that made remarkable strides at Paris Haute Couture Week Fall/Winter 2026-27, allowing visitors to observe every detail up close before the runway presentation began.
Inspired by ancient South Indian temple sculptures, cave sanctuaries and the divine feminine in Hindu philosophy, ‘Devi’ celebrated India’s architectural and spiritual legacy through couture. Thread over thread, Mishra’s signature ‘ektaarka’ embroidery transformed textiles into sculptural surfaces that appeared monumental while remaining fluid and soft.

The presentation also introduced previously unseen looks developed during the evolution of ‘Devi’, alongside Rahul Mishra’s latest Festive Couture collection featuring intricate zardozi embroidery, hand-painted textiles and signature floral motifs.
Closing the showcase was actor Sobhita Dhulipala, who served as the showstopper for Rahul Mishra’s ‘Devi’. Stepping onto the stage, she transformed into the embodiment of the collection’s divine feminine spirit, reflecting grace, strength and serenity. Her appearance brought together couture, sculpted hair artistry and the magnolia-inspired hair accessory created in collaboration with Nexxus New York, completing the vision of ‘Devi’ as a celebration of divinity and artistry.
With Aisha Rao’s celebration of love and Rahul Mishra’s tribute to craftsmanship, India Couture Week 2026 concluded on a note that reflected the many possibilities of contemporary Indian couture. The two showcases marked a fitting finale to a season defined by imagination, artistry and storytelling.
