Inside Anirudh Ravichander and Kavya Maran’s Baroque-Inspired Wedding Invitation

Anirudh Ravichander and Kavya Maran’s wedding invitation stands out for its Baroque-inspired detailing, powder-blue and ivory palette, and intricate craftsmanship. Pink Whistle Man founder Ranjani Iyengar reportedly shares the creative thinking behind the elaborate keepsake box and the painstaking process involved in bringing its ornate design to life

Anirudh Ravichander and Kavya Maran’s wedding reception invitation has drawn attention for its ornate design, vintage-inspired aesthetic and intricate detailing. Created by Ranjani Iyengar, Founder of Pink Whistle Man, the invitation comes in a decorative box that combines classical European influences with a carefully considered colour palette.

Despite its elaborate appearance, the design relies on a restrained combination of colours and decorative elements. Sculptural details, ornamental finishes and a carefully constructed exterior give the invitation its distinctive character.

The Inspiration Behind Design

The invitation box features a powder-blue, ivory and silver palette, with a vintage-style crest and ornate detailing that lends it a Baroque-inspired aesthetic. Its decorative elements create a sense of depth, giving the exterior the appearance of an intricately designed antique object.

Iyengar reportedly said that the couple and their families were involved in the design process, with Kavya taking an active role in discussions.

The brief was to create something classic and timeless that guests would want to preserve. Rather than incorporating illustrations or personal motifs to narrate their relationship, the design focused on an elegant presentation that reflected the couple’s preferences.

The choice of colours was also a considered decision. Iyengar reportedly explained that the couple liked the combination of blue and white. Although the palette suited the setting of their reported destination wedding in Greece, the location was not the original inspiration behind the colour scheme.

The Craft Behind Invitation

Translating the concept into a finished box required considerable work during production. The design reportedly features around 10 to 12 carved elements, individually attached and hand-painted to achieve the intended three-dimensional effect.

The construction involved more than assembling decorative components. The team also had to ensure that the structure could support its lids while maintaining the intended proportions and finish. Balancing the weight of the box with its ornamental details added to the technical challenges of production.

The project reportedly took three to four months to develop. Iyengar also spoke about the challenges she encountered during the process, including an initial design draft that did not meet her expectations. Refining the concept and resolving production difficulties were part of bringing the final design to life.

The stationery inside continues the visual language through embossed detailing, extending the decorative treatment beyond the outer packaging.

Appeal of Luxury Wedding Invitations

Luxury wedding invitations are increasingly valued for their design and presentation, with materials, personalisation and craftsmanship playing a role alongside the printed details. Anirudh and Kavya’s invitation illustrates how traditional decorative influences can shape a contemporary design without overwhelming it with colour or ornamentation.
