The New Luxury Shopper Has Four Legs: Designer Brands Woo Pet Owners

Luxury pet accessories are becoming the latest status symbols, with Gucci and Louis Vuitton offering designer collars, harnesses, trunks and more for affluent pet owners

Forget the handbag, this season’s loudest luxury statement is walking on four legs, as the pet accessory has evolved from a practical purchase into a genuine style signifier. Collars, harnesses, carriers, beds and even feeding bowls are being recast as lifestyle objects, no longer mere add-ons but design pieces in their own right.

It’s a change that gives affluent pet parents a new canvas for the standards they already apply to their wardrobes and homes, extending their personal aesthetic to every corner of their lives. For Gucci, Louis Vuitton and other luxury houses, pets are no longer a niche gifting category; they are a serious, and growing, extension of the luxury consumer.

Luxury Moves Into Pet Life

The shift is not simply about putting a logo on a dog leash. Luxury pet accessories now bring together materials, craftsmanship, personalisation and design language that mirrors the main collections of their makers. Gucci’s pet range includes collars, leashes, harnesses, carriers and accessories, with some pieces available for personalisation. Its harnesses, for instance, use GG Supreme canvas and signature hardware.

Louis Vuitton has pushed the category even further. Its India collection spans dog collars and leashes to travel carpets, harnesses, bowls and elaborate trunks. The Maison’s approach places the pet within the same visual universe as the owner, turning everyday necessities into recognisable design objects.

When Pets Become Patrons

The appeal also reflects a wider change in how affluent consumers spend on animals. Pet owners are increasingly looking at quality, ergonomics, materials and how an accessory fits into their homes, while grooming and wellness are becoming part of the same premium ecosystem.

For those willing to take luxury pet products to extraordinary levels, Louis Vuitton’s India website currently lists some striking examples. At the top sits the Malle Chien at INR 32,50,000 (approx.), an elaborate pet trunk shaped by the Maison’s luggage-making vocabulary. It is followed by the Dog Bed Trunk at INR 14,50,000 (approx.), a Monogram-coated canvas piece with cowhide-leather trim, gold-tone hardware and a removable cushion. The Dog Bowl, priced at INR 2,04,000 (approx.), turns feeding into a design statement, while the Flask Holder LV Vers at INR 1,75,000 (approx.) brings the House’s travel aesthetic into the pet lifestyle.

The category extends into everyday essentials, too. Louis Vuitton’s Harness MM, priced at INR 1,06,000 (approx.), transforms a functional dog accessory into a considered fashion piece, showing how luxury houses are moving from occasional indulgence towards a complete ecosystem for pets. The striking price points also underline how far the premium pet market has travelled, with practical objects increasingly carrying the same craftsmanship, exclusivity and brand recognition associated with luxury fashion.

Luxury pet accessories, therefore, are no longer an afterthought to the fashion economy. They signal a consumer willing to extend the same appetite for exclusivity, craftsmanship and visual identity to every part of life, including the companion waiting at the end of the leash.
