There are two ways to make an entrance. You can arrive quietly, shake a few hands and hope somebody notices. Or you can turn up in a BMW 7 Series, surround yourself with several thousand watts of technology, and have Ranveer Singh unveil the thing. BMW, sensibly, chose the latter. BMW India has launched its new 7 Series range, bringing together petrol and electric power under one very large, very luxurious roof. And this time, the electric side of the family is not merely here to demonstrate that BMW can build an EV. The new BMW i7 M70 xDrive is the most powerful 7 Series ever made. Yes, even more powerful than the petrol cars that have traditionally been the stuff of executive fantasies. And then there is Ranveer Singh, introduced as BMW India’s new Brand Voice. It is an appropriately flamboyant partnership. The 7 Series represents BMW’s pinnacle of luxury, technology and authority, while Singh has never exactly been accused of entering a room unnoticed.
The 7 Series Gets A New Face
BMW has taken the familiar ingredients of the 7 Series and given them a considerably more futuristic recipe. The latest design language borrows from the Neue Klasse era, resulting in a cleaner, more monolithic appearance. The enormous BMW Iconic Glow Kidney Grille remains impossible to ignore, while the BMW Individual crystal headlights use Swarovski crystal elements to produce rather spectacular light effects. The new BMW badge sits between two sharply defined bonnet lines, while flush door handles and a long character line running into the rear give the car a remarkably elegant, almost boat tail like appearance. At the back, slimmer rear lights and a prominent diffuser give the big sedan a wider stance. Choose the M Sport package and things become considerably more aggressive, with 20 inch wheels, M Sport brakes, black Shadowline detailing and an M specific aerodynamic treatment.

Then There Is The M70
If the standard 7 Series is about arriving in comfort, the i7 M70 is about arriving considerably earlier than everyone else. The electric flagship produces 680 hp from its two motors, with 1,015 Nm of torque in Sport mode and up to 1,100 Nm when Launch Control or Sport Boost is activated. It reaches 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds and continues to 250 km/h. This is, frankly, rather silly for a luxury limousine. And that is precisely why it is wonderful. The M70 gets its own darker Iconic Glow grille, smoke black crystal headlights, M badges, black exterior details, 21 inch aerodynamic wheels and a distinctive rear diffuser. It looks less like an executive car and more like an executive car that has recently discovered track days.
The Electric 7 Gets Serious Range
The i7 50 xDrive produces 455 hp and 660 Nm, reaching 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds. More importantly, its new 112.5 kWh battery delivers up to 728 km of WLTP range, an improvement of 125 km over the outgoing model. The i7 M70 manages up to 686 km. Charging from 10 to 80 per cent on a 250 kW DC charger takes around 28 minutes, while a 22 kW AC charger can take the battery from empty to full in about six hours. BMW will also provide a complimentary Wallbox charger with installation.
Your Rear Seat Has Become A Cinema
The front cabin is now essentially a rolling technology laboratory. BMW Panoramic Vision stretches projected information across the width of the windscreen, while the 17.9 inch central display runs BMW Operating System X. There is also a first for the 7 Series: a 14.6 inch BMW Passenger Screen. The clever bit is that it automatically darkens if the camera detects the driver looking towards it. But the real party remains in the back.
The 31.3 inch 8K BMW Theatre Screen descends from the roof, while the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System with Dolby Atmos turns the rear cabin into something resembling a private cinema. Executive Lounge seats recline with a torso angle of up to 43 degrees, because apparently sitting normally is now considered insufficiently luxurious.
India Joins Germany In Building The i7
Perhaps the biggest development for India is happening somewhere less glamorous than the rear seat. The new BMW i7 will now be locally produced at BMW Group Plant Chennai, making India only the second country after Germany to manufacture the i7. The range starts with the BMW 740 M Sport at ₹1.95 crore, alongside the BMW i7 50 xDrive M Sport at ₹1.95 crore. At the top sits the BMW i7 M70 xDrive at ₹2.65 crore, with deliveries beginning from October 2026. So, what has BMW achieved? Essentially, it has taken the traditional luxury limousine, removed the assumption that electric cars should be sensible, added a cinema, a dashboard that practically occupies the horizon and enough torque to rearrange your internal organs. And then it gave the keys to Ranveer Singh. Honestly, subtle was never really the point.
