Step into Harbour Grand Kowloon, and you’re instantly transported, away from Hong Kong’s relentless buzz, into a serene cocoon by Victoria Harbour. Tucked away in Whampoa’s quieter corner, this understated gem is a world of marble, chandeliers, and ocean panoramas so striking they could frame a postcard. From the rooftop infinity pool to the welcoming Harbourview rooms, it feels like the city’s comforting embrace. If you’ve ever needed proof that urban hustle and breezy calm can coexist, this is it.

Here’s the thing about this hotel, it’s not trying too hard, and that’s exactly its magic. Picture this; soaring glass windows bringing Victoria Harbour almost into the lobby, elegant touches like cascading fountains that murmur opulence stylishly.

My was no exception. The room was practically designed for lingering. Warm tones greeted me, a colour palette so soothing it felt like an extension of the harbour itself. Floor-to-ceiling windows stole the show, framing Hong Kong Island perfectly as it shimmered in the distance. There’s a generosity to the space unusual for Hong Kong; a king sized bed you could get lost in, a cushy sofa calling for lazy afternoons, and a desk strategically placed so you could pretend to work while soaking in all those water views. And the bathroom? A marble ode to old school glamour. Twin spaces for bath and shower, mirrors catching light from every angle, I didn’t just get ready; I ‘arrived’.

The rooftop infinity pool deserves its own fan club. High above the city chaos, it feels like the city’s best kept secret (shared only with those smart enough to book in), with the harbour stretching endlessly before you. Lying on a sunbed, the pool’s shimmering blue surface stretches before me, mirroring the endless sea beyond. It’s a bizarrely calming juxtaposition, natural waves on one side, towering concrete marvels on the other. This isn’t just a pool; it’s a front row ticket to Hong Kong’s split personality, a city both frenetic and serene in equal measure. Order a cocktail, don’t ask questions, and watch city life melt away.

The gym, a stone’s throw from the pool, makes for a refreshing counterpart if your idea of ‘relaxation’ includes sweating it out with views that distract you from the treadmill timer. I wasn’t about to brave the weights, but should you break a sweat, fluffy towels are aplenty. And if that boutique vibe feels worlds away from Hong Kong’s energy, the hotel pier seamlessly plugs you back into the scene. Hop on a ferry, and within minutes you’re gliding toward the iconic island skyline.
The real indulgence, though, was breakfast. Just behind the lobby with panoramic views of the Harbour, The Promenade is every foodie’s dream come true. Think congee, steamed buns, sushi, and even English breakfast staples, all lined up like a jewel box of flavours. I piled my plate high, silky miso soup, stir fried noodles, tropical fruits. But the star? A buttery almond croissant that melted in my mouth, paired with juicy dragon fruit so ripe it practically dripped.

Even the Corner Café has breath-taking views as the Harbour Grill. But the show stopper is tucked away across from the hotel, their hidden gem of a robatayaki spot feels like stepping into a rustic corner of Japan, oak furniture, traditional décor, and the mesmerizing sizzle of open grills anchoring the room.

I found myself seated around the fire, entranced as chefs turned pristine seafood and cuts of meat into edible art. The assorted sashimi, glistening like jewels, offered a pristine taste of the sea, salmon, yellowtail, and sweet shrimp stealing the show. The dried blowfish, savoury with a toothsome chew, was a quirky standout among the robatayaki offerings, but it was the cod’s meltingly smooth texture and the tender Wagyu’s ( A5) perfect char that won my heart. And don’t skip the asparagus, simple yet sublime. Pair it all with a cold sake, and you’ll linger far longer than planned.

With its harbourfront location and sky high calm, the Harbour Grand Kowloon is an antidote to the chaos of Hong Kong, an oasis in the heart of Kowloon. Whether you’re diving into the pool or devouring your third croissant (no judgment), the Harbour Grand gives you a slice of calm in this deliciously chaotic city.
