Why the Colorful Preppy Look Is SS27’s Biggest Menswear Trend

Spring Summer 2027 menswear embraces colourful preppy dressing with vibrant tailoring, polo shirts and luxury classics seen across the SS27 runways

Last month, the Spring/Summer 2027 menswear runways in Paris and Milan traded restraint for colour. Polo shirts came in sorbet shades, tailoring felt lighter, and preppy classics returned with a playful edge. The season’s most compelling trend was neither maximalism nor minimalism. It was colourful prep, a joyful reimagining of timeless menswear staples that signals luxury fashion’s growing appetite for personality and optimism.

The season’s biggest trend borrowed the familiar language of menswear, including polo shirts, blazers, sweaters tied over the shoulders and relaxed trousers, and refreshes it with unexpected palettes and fluid styling. Luxury houses are moving beyond quiet minimalism to embrace personality, making colour the season’s most powerful accessory.

Colour Meets Classic Codes

Thom Browne presented one of the season’s most memorable interpretations of modern prep. Signature tailoring appeared alongside vibrant hues and whimsical details that challenged conventional menswear codes while remaining unmistakably preppy at heart. Colour became an extension of storytelling rather than decoration.

Ralph Lauren, meanwhile, returned to the spirit that has long defined the house. Its Spring 2027 menswear presentation celebrated collegiate dressing and the gentleman athlete through Purple Label and Polo Ralph Lauren. Relaxed silhouettes, rich jewel tones, heritage fabrics and layered separates brought renewed energy to timeless American style.

Luxury menswear’s relationship with prep has always been rooted in craftsmanship and ease. SS27 updates that relationship through colour and individuality.

Luxury’s Bright New Mood

Fashion’s renewed love affair with colour speaks to a broader cultural shift. Designers are leaning into optimism and self-expression after seasons dominated by understated dressing. Menswear no longer treats colour as an accent. Pink, lavender, lemon yellow and shades of blue are becoming foundational elements of a wardrobe.

What makes the colourful preppy trend particularly compelling is its versatility. A striped knit layered over tailored shorts feels just as luxurious as a pastel suit paired with loafers. Traditional pieces remain intact, yet styling feels freer and more personal.

Spring/Summer 2027 proves that prep is far from predictable. Luxury menswear’s brightest trend is not simply about colour. It is about rediscovering joy in getting dressed.
