How often do we truly disconnect—cutting through the noise, tuning out distractions, and simply listening to the rhythm of our breath and the whispering breeze? Despite the countless meditation apps and guided chants, achieving this feels almost impossible.

And, here I was at Ozen reserve Bolifushi in the Maldives, laying down with nothing but the ocean’s blues filling my mind. From deep blue to cerulean to turquoise and even emerald—a entire rainbow of blues casting a tranquil spell, inducing a state of pure serenity without any apps. A detox without trying hard! That’s the magic of The Maldives—an effortless elevation of the senses, where words like ‘calm’ and ‘peace’ naturally reclaim their place in your life.

On a sunny afternoon, found myself surrendering to the indulgence of a spa ritual at ELE | NA Elements of Nature Spa at the Ozen Reserve Bolifushi. The rhythmic strokes of my therapist, melted away every trace of tension from my body as the gentle lull of the waves below merged with the intoxicating aroma of essential oils. The Intuitive Therapy experience began with a symphony of gentle stretches, rhythmic kneading, and strategic pressure, all attuned to my body’s needs in that moment by intuitively blending techniques.

But what truly struck me was what unfolded below the spa’s glass floor—the colorful marine life drifting past, their neon colours and hypnotic dance, mirroring the fluidity of my relaxation. Suspended over the shimmering turquoise waters, the overwater treatment rooms feel like an extension of the ocean itself—a Pixar-perfect dreamscape that soothes the soul as much as the body. I stepped out of session feeling not just physically renewed, but also emotionally centered—a sense of lightness that lingered long after I left the tranquil overwater sanctuary of ELE | NA Elements of Nature Spa.

This was my third day at the OZEN Reserve Bolifushi which is just a 30-minute speedboat ride from Malé in the South Malé Atoll. The indulgence begins the moment you land. A seamless transfer in a luxurious motor yacht prepares you for what awaits you at the resort. The arrival is nothing short of cinematic—handcrafted palm-leaf garlands, rhythmic drum beats, the ceremonial blowing of a conch shell—a grand welcome to barefoot luxury. I met my hiyani (translated, shadow) or butler Samir, who guided me to a buggy and took me around the island — pointing to the restaurants, fitness centre, beaches, various villas, and Kuda Koli Kids Club before stopping in front of a stunning ocean villa that was to be my home for the next few days. Surrounded 360 degrees by a natural reef and the turquoise blue waters that changes colours every minute, it was an invitation to slow down and soak in the magic of island life.

The Ultimate Stay in Luxury Living

Between the sea and skies, the overwater Ocean Pool Suite, has all the luxury amenities of a world-class resort, but the highpoints include a private infinity pool stretched toward the endless blue ocean and a personal water slide—yes, a slide—that lands you straight into the depths of warm Maldivian waters. Even a few passing showers didn’t dull the magic of my stay. Though I skipped the water slide, I descended the private stairway into the ocean—momentarily feeling like a mermaid as fish swam alongside me. The strong currents of the ocean gave the thrill as well as the scare of my lifetime. However, I chose to spend most the time on the over water hammock catching all kinds of fish swim beneath me.

The interiors offer a king-sized bed facing floor-to-ceiling glass doors to wake up to every morning, an open-air rain shower, an oversized bathtub with panoramic views of the Indian Ocean and a walk-in closet demanding mirror selfies every time you step out. Taking things up a notch, what truly makes this resort standout from the other resorts, is their all-inclusive RESERVE™Plan that is the ultimate offering for guests seeking the perfect tropical escapade without any hidden costs.

From curating the perfect itinerary of their various facilities, to serving dining experiences across their four restaurants to a selection of non-motorised water sports, and the in-room maxi bar that is restocked every day along with plenty of snacks, coffee pods, chocolates, et al— every indulgence is accounted for.

And while the resort offers thrilling water activities, simplest pleasures are the most memorable—like a sunset bicycle ride along the wooden jetty or capturing the perfect swing selfie at the beach.

Dining with a View

While the resort offers five diverse international restaurants, suitable for all ages, the most enjoyable experience I had was at the Ozar Pool Bar next to the main pool. Make sure you head there to catch the perfect tequila sunrise as you sip your cocktail of choice or a negroni to match the fiery sky colours. While they serve drinks and snacks throughout the day, catching the sunset hour will give you a different high followed by a local band that adds to the vibe. For someone who doesn’t crave Indian food abroad, I thoroughly enjoy the traditional Indian thali served at Saffron, their Indian restaurant. Helmed by an ex-Oberoi chef, the saffron-infused delicacies, slow-cooked curries, and a live tandoor station was a welcome change. Here, you can dine under the stars and enjoy live Indian classical music for a taste of home.

At their pan-Asian restaurant, Soyi, that focuses on recipes from Chinese, Thai, Indonesian, Malaysian, I had the most delicious poached beef in hot chilli oil—just the right amount of spice to turn things up! For a lazy brunch, head to Sangu Beach, and dig into their mezze platters that burst with flavour as you pose around the swaying coconut trees and the soft white sands for the gram. While on a vacation, a hearty breakfast is one to look out for, and Vista Del Mar, the all-day dining venue, ensures that breakfast is never mundane. Here, I discovered the most delicious traditional Maldivian breakfast that has me thinking of my next trip to the island.

As my speedboat departed, leaving behind the turquoise sanctuary that had been my home, I knew one thing: the Ozen Reserve Bolifushi wasn’t just one of the finest properties in the Maldives—it was a world of its own, a place where luxury isn’t just offered, but instinctively understood.
