Suriya and Jyotika have marked their 20th wedding anniversary with a vow renewal at Blairquhan Castle in Scotland. The Tamil film industry’s much-loved couple, who married on September 11, 2006, in Chennai, celebrated the milestone with their children, family and close friends. Glimpses from the intimate ceremony surfaced on social media, including Jyotika walking down the aisle as part of the anniversary celebration.
The couple’s choice of venue brought a distinctly Scottish setting to the occasion. Tucked away in the Ayrshire countryside, Blairquhan Castle is the luxury Scottish castle that hosted the anniversary celebration, surrounded by gardens, woodland and centuries of history. A tower house originally stood on the site in 1346, giving the property more than seven centuries of history. The estate, rather than the present structure, has more than 700 years of history.

Designed by Scottish architect William Burn, the current castle has a Gothic, castellated appearance, with dramatic towers, large windows and formal interiors. The Saloon, with its 60-foot ceiling and four large sash windows, is among the property’s grandest spaces. The Large Drawing Room features damask walls, chandeliers, a marble fireplace and views of the gardens.
Inside The Castle They Chose
Blairquhan’s connection to cinema adds another layer to a celebration involving two actors. Its interiors and grounds were used to represent Balmoral Castle in the 2006 film The Queen, while the estate has also appeared in other screen productions.
The 200-acre estate includes an arboretum, woodland trails, an 18th-century lime tree avenue, a garden pond and a walled garden dating to around 1816. The castle has 15 bedrooms, while eight holiday cottages across the estate provide additional accommodation for larger groups.
