The countdown to the World’s 50 Best Restaurants for 2024 has begun as the extended list of restaurants ranked from No.51 to No.100 is revealed, ahead of this year’s awards ceremony in Las Vegas on June 5, 2024. Two Indian restaurants have made it to the list this year—Masque, Mumbai and Indian Accent, Delhi.

At Number 78 Masque, Mumbai has finally debuted in the World 50 Best Restaurants list. Under the leadership of restaurateur Aditi Dugar, Masque has garnered numerous accolades since its inception in 2016. The restaurant has carved a niche for itself by highlighting the wealth of India’s indigenous produce, extracting maximum flavour from local ingredients and serving in a contemporary avatar. Following the departure of founding chef Prateek Sadhu in 2022, Mumbai native Varun Totlani has taken over the culinary direction at Masque, quickly establishing his own stellar reputation. Totlani’s dishes such as turmeric scampi and sea buckthorn pani puri are stellar showcase of the restaurant’s philosophy. Masque also opened Masque Lab in 2020, a 1200 sq ft lab, where the Masque team, experiments with and tests ingredients to create an unthought-of dish with its root in Indian flavours.
