Double Date, Double Win: Nomos Glashütte’s Tangente 2date Sweeps 2025 Design Awards

Blending Bauhaus charm with bold innovation, the Tangente 2date by Nomos Glashütte earns both the Red Dot and iF Design Awards in 2025

In a year marked by outstanding design innovations, one watch has stood out above the others: Nomos Glashütte‘s Tangente 2date, which won the 2025 iF Design Award in addition to the Red Dot Design Award. Lovers of minimalist watchmaking with a twist will be pleased when they discover that NOMOS is not only reinventing tradition but also refining it, as many had already predicted.

The Red Dot Award and the iF Design Award are among the most esteemed recognitions in the global design community. The Red Dot, presented annually in Essen, Germany, celebrates products that combine function with form in exemplary fashion. Similarly, the iF Design Award, established in 1953, honors designs that push boundaries in innovation, aesthetics, and impact. To win one is notable. To win both in the same year is a powerful endorsement of excellence.

Presenting the Tangente 2date, a seemingly timeless dress watch with a twist for the discerning eye. NOMOS, which has long been linked to the elegant simplicity and clean lines of watchmaking with Bauhaus influences, has given this piece a fun yet useful twist by adding a dual date display. It appears to be a familiar Tangente at first glance, with its sharp lettering, slim casing, and angular lugs. But the brilliance is revealed when you look closely.

A conventional window date at six o’clock and an outside ring date, a patented Nomos invention, that circles the dial’s edge share the spotlight on the white, silver-plated dial. The red frame around the ring date’s digits adds a subtle pop of colour that has come to represent Nomos. The outcome? A very readable and visually appealing approach to looking at the day and the month as a whole.

Yet, the true progress lies under the surface. The brand-new DUW 4601 calibre from Nomos, a hand-wound, in-house movement that blends precision mechanics with smaller dimensions, beats inside. The DUW 4601, which is intended to eventually replace the brand’s iconic Alpha movement, is a testament to the brand’s technological prowess and its drive for advancement.

Despite its mechanical complexity, the Tangente 2date remains surprisingly slim at just 6.75mm thick, and its 37.5mm case is delightfully wearable, though its long lugs lend it a larger presence on the wrist. This proportion, paired with a water resistance of 50m, balances elegance with everyday usability.

Collectors can choose between two dial variations: a galvanic silver option with classic black print or a more expressive sunray blue with white markings. Both feature ultra-thin rhodium-plated hands and a small seconds sub-dial with a concentric pattern that brings a subtle texture to the clean design.

What’s particularly compelling about the Tangente 2date is how it manages to stay true to Nomos’ DNA while pushing the envelope. From its Bauhaus roots to its contemporary flair, this watch demonstrates that minimalism doesn’t mean monotony. As one of the most beloved silhouettes in the brand’s catalogue, the Tangente has always been about restraint—but now, with the Tangente 2date, restraint meets reinvention.

The Red Dot Award ceremony, set for July 8 in Essen, will see the Tangente 2date officially celebrated on the international stage. But for Nomos enthusiasts, the celebration has already begun. The brand’s ability to blend playful ingenuity with timeless craftsmanship continues to win hearts—and awards.

With the Tangente 2date, Nomos Glashütte not only honours its heritage but also carves a bold path forward, proving that even the most understated watch can make a statement—twice, in this case.

The Tangente 2date is available in India exclusively through Ethos Watches, the country’s premier luxury watch retailer.
