For JJ Valaya, opening two stores in Mumbai feels like “homecoming”.  The ace couturier has opened two grand outposts, JJ Valaya Couture and JJV Kapurthala (prêt line) at Jio World Plaza, Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). This comes after Valaya first opened a store in the Maximum City in 2001 at Kemps Corner in South Mumbai.

The JJ Valaya Couture store spanning 1500 sqft features bridal wear, couture and menswear along with embroidered lehengas. The interiors designed by the ace couturier himself feature his tasteful interest in art, travel and photography. Framed photographs taken by Valaya adorn the walls while exquisite wall coverings and Art Deco chandeliers heighten the experience for the visitor beside showcasing regal refinement. The store also houses his latest couture collection ‘East’ — a poetic voyage through the 17th to 18th century Balkans region, East Asia and majestic India through heritage pieces tailored for bride and grooms in rich tones of spice, reds, antique neutrals and more.

On the other front, the JJV Kapurthala store spanning 850 sq ft draws inspiration from the travels of Maharaja Jagjit Singh of Kapurthala, to the East. Visitors can find the latest collection from the Kapurthala line, ‘SATT Autumn–Winter 2025’, featuring lightweight Indian skirt sets, kurta sets, Anarkalis, layered separates, Nehru jackets and evening wear along with fine accessories like twilly scarves, embroidered, and statement bags.

Both the stores also bear the distinctive house codes of JJ Valaya with Chevron —  a recurring pattern seen on JJV’s collections and have also lent the brand its unique identity. The stores also house the Alika Jacket, a versatile and timeless collectable that can be layered over ethnic as well as modern silhouettes.

Speaking on returning to Mumbai after 24 years, JJ Valaya shares “This felt like the right moment to return to Mumbai, a city that has always been central to India’s style and cultural narrative. What makes this homecoming after 24 years truly special is the opening of two distinct spaces: JJ Valaya, representing our pinnacle couture and bridal heritage, and JJV Kapurthala, our bridge-to-luxury label that takes our ethos to a wider audience. For me, Mumbai has always thrived on tradition and reinvention, and I couldn’t think of a more fitting time to bring both these worlds here, almost like completing a full circle.”

With the new store launches, JJ Valaya marks a milestone in his three-decade long career dedicated to showing India’s artistry and craftsmanship through couture.
