If you’ve not guessed already, both films are shot at the Chomu Palace in Jaipur. Set about 45 kilometres from Jaipur, along the quiet stretch of NH-11, the journey to the palace itself feels like a transition, from the chaos of the city into a slower, rustic world.
The way to the palace is dotted with scenic villages, open skies, and desert-toned landscapes. They build a mysterious calm before you even arrive giving it a cinematic advantage.
Is Chomu Palace Haunted?
Given the 350-Year-old history of the palace and two horror films shot here, many may think that Chomu Palace is haunted. However, while it stands out for its silence, scale, and a sense of being removed from time, the palace is not haunted. Infact, it’s converted into a luxury heritage hotel. Built in 1550 by Rao Gopalji, a descendant of Jaipur’s royal lineage, the structure began as a fortified residence for nobles and military chiefs.
Its fusion of Rajput and Mughal architecture makes it a perfect location to shoot horror films; arched corridors that twist unexpectedly, expansive courtyards that open into light, and shadowy alcoves that seem to hold secrets. The intricate jaali screens filter sunlight into fractured patterns, casting moving shadows that shift through the day, creating a “something’s-not-right” visual tension for the on-screen viewer.
Inside, the detailing further builds the drama. Frescoed walls narrate tales of mythology and royal life, while marble inlay and antique furnishings add a haunting opulence. High ceilings, long hallways, and cavernous rooms allow sound to travel in peculiar ways—footsteps echo, whispers linger. It’s no surprise that directors return here to shoot a ghost story.
