Luxury has always been at its most compelling when creative worlds collide. The finest couture no longer exists solely on the runway, just as exceptional automobiles and timepieces have evolved far beyond their functional origins. Increasingly, they share a common language defined by craftsmanship, individuality and the pursuit of artistic perfection. Few designers understand this dialogue better than Gaurav Gupta, whose sculptural creations have consistently blurred the boundaries between fashion, art and architecture. With Light Song, unveiled at Mumbai’s Jio World Convention Centre, the internationally acclaimed couturier presented one of the most ambitious collections in his House’s history. Developed over nine months by more than 200 artisans across 6,000 hours of meticulous handcraftsmanship, the collection extended beyond couture silhouettes to embrace bespoke automotive design and Swiss horology. Through collaborations with MG SELECT and Favre Leuba, Light Song became a compelling demonstration of how contemporary luxury is increasingly defined not by a single discipline, but by the seamless convergence of fashion, engineering and artisanal excellence.

Comprising more than 70 couture looks, Light Song explored cocktail dressing, occasion wear, bridal couture and menswear while introducing new textile innovations, revived archival techniques and experimental craftsmanship. Every garment reflected Gupta’s sculptural design philosophy, where fluid silhouettes and intricate surface treatments transformed fabric into wearable works of art. The collection reinforced the House’s commitment to preserving India’s artisanal traditions while continually pushing the boundaries of contemporary couture. Gaurav Gupta said, “Every design begins with a vision of how people experience movement. With the MG M9 and Cyberster Couture Edition, we translated the craftsmanship and sculptural philosophy of couture into the world of luxury mobility. It represents a new benchmark where design, technology and artistry coexist, redefining what a premium automotive experience can be.”

As the Official Automobile Partner, MG SELECT unveiled the MG M9 Couture Edition and MG Cyberster Couture Edition, India’s first couture edition luxury vehicles. Conceived by Gaurav Gupta, both collector models reinterpret automotive design through the House’s iconic Serpent Infinity motif, a recurring symbol of continuity, transformation and quiet power. Embroidery inspired detailing, layered finishes and handcrafted surfaces allow the vehicles to capture the same sense of movement and dimensionality seen throughout the runway collection. Limited to 50 examples of each model, the exclusive editions will be available only through MG SELECT, making them among the most exclusive luxury automobiles to arrive in India. Milind Shah, Head, MG SELECT, JSW MG Motor India said, “The MG M9 and Cyberster Couture Editions are a celebration of that belief. They bring together the artistry of couture to create vehicles that are as expressive as they are innovative. They reflect our vision of building automobiles as enduring symbols of individuality, craftsmanship and modern luxury.”

The collaboration builds upon a relationship first introduced earlier this year during the opening of Gupta’s menswear flagship in New Delhi, where an early interpretation of the Cyberster hinted at the creative possibilities between couture and automotive design. With Light Song, that conversation reached its fullest expression as the Cyberster itself appeared on the runway, blurring the distinction between fashion presentation and automotive design.

Adding another dimension to the showcase, Swiss watchmaker Favre Leuba partnered with Gaurav Gupta, with models wearing the brand’s timepieces throughout the presentation. The collaboration also sets the stage for an exclusive collaborative watch scheduled to debut later this year, bringing together Favre Leuba’s centuries of Swiss watchmaking expertise with Gupta’s contemporary couture language in what promises to be one of the year’s most anticipated cross disciplinary luxury collaborations. Pranav Saboo, Managing Director & CEO, Ethos Limited said, “Favre Leuba’s connection with India dates back to 1865, and its collaboration with Gaurav Gupta is a natural extension of that legacy. It brings together Swiss watchmaking and haute couture through a co-created timepiece that is currently in development.”
Light Song demonstrates that the future of luxury lies not within individual disciplines but in the conversations between them. By uniting haute couture, bespoke automobiles and fine watchmaking through a shared commitment to craftsmanship, innovation and artistic expression, Gaurav Gupta has created more than a fashion collection. He has presented a vision of contemporary luxury where every creation, whether worn on the body, driven on the road or fastened to the wrist, becomes part of the same evolving story of design excellence.
