Blending Tradition With Innovation: India’s Interior Design Trends For 2025

We spoke to experts to predict the biggest home décor and interior design trends for 2025

February 10, 2025

As we get into high gear in 2025, Indian homes are embracing a blend of tradition and modernity, creating spaces that are both deeply personal and globally inspired. With a rising emphasis on sustainability, smart technology, and cultural revival, interior design is no longer just about aesthetics—it’s about creating spaces that are functional, eco-friendly, and soulful.

This is a movement in home design that has gained momentum over the last five years escalated by the pandemic. There is a growing desire for customised homes as consumers look for designs that are specifically tailored to their own preferences and requirements. “Homes now are as unique as their owners, with custom designs and bespoke lighting pieces creating focal points that speak to individual tastes and lifestyles,” explain Kunal and Sidharth Rohatgi, Directors of Fos Lighting.

“With quiet luxury trends, it goes beyond aesthetics and translates into comfort and leisure to gratify the body, mind and spirit. The pools, lounges, and patios have slowly evolved into zen gardens, saunas, and meditative spaces that defy the restrictions set by the urban fabric and offer a little bit of the outside on the inside. This gave a larger backstory to the luxury homes we see today—making them find their meaning in the element of surprise,” adds Punam Kalra, Creative Director of I’m the Centre for Applied Arts.

Additionally, international trends are influencing India’s luxury home market. “With an increasing number of HNIs and UHNIs being exposed to global standards of living, more and more international architects and designers are involved in luxury residential projects in India, ensuring that homes align with global aesthetics and functionality,” says Keerthi Tummala, Founder and Creative Director, Sage Living. Furthermore, outdoor living areas have become more popular, establishing smooth transitions between interior and outdoor spaces.

Our deep dive into a trends analysis led to discovering the biggest trends in décor and interior design in 2025. Here are the top six trends in India:

1. Textured Play

Textured Play

Plain walls are a thing of the past and are being replaced by textures for visual and tactile richness. “Textures, with their character and appeal, add depth and meaning to the space. Such finer renditions of bold materials make them versatile, ready to be paired with any style/signature,” Kalra. Spaces will gain depth and intrigue from ornate plaster finishes, wood panelling and wallpapered ceilings. At the same time, natural materials such as stone, wood and clay help in creating a sense of tranquility and connection with nature. Lime-wash wall treatments and clay-textured paints are going to gain momentum in 2025.

2. Colour-Drenched Rooms

Vivid, rich hues will be back in style in 2025. A single hue in a variety of tones is used in colour-drenched spaces to produce a unified and powerful aesthetic. “For people who enjoy maximalist or whimsical interior design, wish to create a statement, or want to add a stylish touch to their surroundings, it is time to be unafraid of colours,” explains Minnie Bhatt, Founder and Design Director at Minnie Bhatt Design.

3. Statement Lighting

“Lights are an integral part of any space and décor, and luxury homes are investing in custom-made lighting installation for not just drawing rooms, but also intimate spaces like bedrooms and bathrooms,” says the Rohatgi brothers. Sculptural light fixtures, chandeliers, and large pendant lights are decorative as well as practical and are being used in personalised layouts. Dynamic lighting that adapts to the time of day or mood is also gaining popularity.

4. Vintage And Retro Influences

Trends are cyclical, so it is no surprise that retro influences are back albeit with a contemporary touch. Modern homes are given a feeling of history and individuality by using vintage furniture, striking patterns, and sentimental decor pieces. Homes can share a unique story about their dwellers with distinctive, eclectic interiors that combine old and new materials.

5. Timeless Craftsmanship

Luxury today is defined by authenticity and sustainability, be it art, furniture or light. The premium on a handwoven fabric from India, an Italian piece of furniture, handcrafted Chandelier is an expression of intent transforming interiors into galleries of high-end art. Tummala says, “Homeowners are treating their living spaces as personal showcases for rare, limited-edition pieces. These collectable design pieces often blur the lines between sculpture and functional objects.”

6. AI-Powered Smart Homes

AI-Powered Smart Homes

AI-powered smart homes are no longer a futuristic imagination—they represent a shift toward a more connected and efficient way of living. “From predictive maintenance to immersive entertainment and beyond, these homes provide an elevated living experience that allows you to focus on what matters most, while your home takes care of the rest,” Tummala adds. AI Assistants anticipate your needs, offering a level of convenience and customisation that feels almost intuitive. With predictive maintenance technology, smart homes are equipped with sensors that monitor the health of systems and appliances throughout the house. Immersive media rooms can transform living rooms into personal cinema, with high-definition screens, state-of-the-art sound systems, and AI-driven adjustments that enhance the viewing experience.

Your Home Is A Reflection Of You

The adage ‘making a house into a home’ comes true only when it reflects the resident’s personality. Every corner, every detail, speaks volumes about what the inhabitants value, cherish, and wish to express. “Every design decision we make, whether it be in terms of layout, materials, or décor, reflects our values and personality, making it a platform for self-expression. Beyond appearances, a house creates an environment that feels exclusively ours by offering security and comfort” says Bhatt.

A carefully chosen pendant light over the dining table, a vintage wall sconce in the hallway, or a cosy table lamp by the bedside is also a declaration of identity, reflecting cultural heritage. “The style and design personality speaks for us here, making us interact with the very space we live in—and eventually make memories in and with it,” adds Kalra.

Design Themes That Will Capture The Imagination

1. Biophilic Design

Biophilic Design

“Blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces, biophilic design incorporates natural elements to improve well-being by bringing the outside indoors through living walls, indoor gardens, wide windows, and natural materials like wood and stone. Calm, nature-inspired designs are further enhanced by water elements and an abundance of natural light,” says Bhatt.

2. Soulscapes

The design philosophy that emphasises deeply personal and meaningful spaces is at the heart of Soulscapes. In 2025, homeowners are seeking spaces that are carefully curated to foster a strong emotional connection, offering a sanctuary where individuals feel understood, inspired, and at peace. A home should mirror who you truly are. This goes beyond simply choosing colours or furniture styles; it’s about creating an atmosphere that nurtures your identity and reflects your journey. The idea is to transform a living space into a reflection of personal growth, unique experiences, and cherished memories.

3. Silent Opulence

Silent Opulence

Quiet luxury isn’t about flashy displays or opulent excess; it’s about creating a deeply comfortable, immersive environment where every element has been designed with care and intentionality. The goal is to cultivate spaces that elevate both the body and mind. This trend appeals to those who value sophistication and authenticity, where quality materials, thoughtful design, and wellness features come together to create a sanctuary for mind, body, and spirit. Quiet luxury is not about making a statement—it’s about crafting a space where true tranquility and elegance can be experienced daily.
