After Giorgio Armani, Dario Vitale To Shape The House’s Next Era

Giorgio Armani’s fashion house is entering a new chapter after the founder’s death, with Dario Vitale taking on a major creative role alongside longtime collaborators Leo Dell’Orco and Silvana Armani. A carefully planned ownership transition could further shape the brand’s future

Giorgio Armani was more than the name on a fashion label. He built a global luxury house around a very specific idea of elegance, from soft tailoring and fluid suits to a pared-back approach that became instantly recognisable. After his death in September 2025, one question has followed the Armani fashion house closely. Who will shape the brand now?

The answer is beginning to take form, although there is no single Giorgio Armani successor waiting to step into his shoes. Instead, the future of the Armani fashion brand is being built around a mix of long-time insiders and a new creative voice.

The latest addition is Dario Vitale, who has been appointed creative director of Emporio Armani and Giorgio Armani Accessories. His appointment, announced on September 16, marks an important moment for the house because Vitale is the first major creative figure from outside the Armani family to take on such a role.

Armani’s New Creative

Vitale is not new to big fashion names. He spent 15 years at Miu Miu before becoming creative director of Versace in 2025. At Armani, he will oversee Emporio Armani and the brand’s accessories. His first Emporio Armani collection will arrive during Milan Fashion Week on September 24, giving the industry its first real look at how he plans to approach the house’s next chapter.

His arrival does not mean the Armani look is being handed over to a completely new team. Leo Dell’Orco, one of Giorgio Armani’s closest longtime collaborators, continues to lead menswear. Silvana Armani, Giorgio Armani’s niece, remains responsible for womenswear.

Both figures have been part of the house for decades, giving the brand a direct link to its founder even after his death. Their presence also means Vitale is entering an established creative ecosystem rather than taking over the entire fashion house.

Business Is Changing

The succession story goes beyond clothes and collections. Giorgio Armani also left detailed instructions about what should happen to his company in the years following his death.

His will outlined plans for the Armani Foundation to sell a 15% stake in the business within 12 to 18 months. It also named LVMH, L’Oréal and EssilorLuxottica among the preferred potential partners. A larger sale or possible stock-market listing could follow within three to five years.

The structure is designed to keep significant control within the Armani Foundation while allowing the company to evolve over time. Dell’Orco and members of the Armani family also retain important voting rights.

Armani’s next chapter, then, is unlikely to be about finding another Giorgio Armani. His design codes, name and philosophy remain the foundation, while the people shaping the house gradually change.

Vitale brings a fresh perspective, while Dell’Orco and Silvana Armani carry decades of knowledge from working alongside its founder. Their roles, alongside the evolving ownership structure, will help determine how the Giorgio Armani legacy is interpreted for a new generation.
