The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards brought television’s biggest names to Los Angeles on September 14, with Mariska Hargitay hosting the ceremony at the Peacock Theater. The night belonged to a handful of standout performances and history-making wins, with ‘Widow’s Bay’ setting a new record for the most wins by a comedy series.

It took home Outstanding Comedy Series alongside awards for writing, directing and lead actor Matthew Rhys. Kate O’Flynn and Stephen Root also won in the supporting acting categories.
Rhys had an especially notable night, becoming the first performer to win in two lead acting categories in the same year after also taking home the limited series award for ‘The Beast in Me’. Jean Smart continued her remarkable Emmy run, winning lead actress in a comedy series for ‘Hacks’ for the fifth consecutive season.

The win took her total to eight Emmys, tying her with Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Cloris Leachman for the most wins by a performer, a record Allison Janney matched the same night for ‘The Diplomat’. In drama, ‘The Pitt’ won Outstanding Drama Series again, while Noah Wyle repeated his lead actor win. Rhea Seehorn, meanwhile, took home her first Emmy for lead actress in a drama series for ‘Pluribus’.
On the fashion front, Emmy Awards 2026 brought contrasting approaches to red-carpet dressing, from fluid gowns and sheer detailing to sharply cut tailoring.

Hue and Embellishments Dominate
Rhea Seehorn, one of the night’s most talked-about winners, arrived in a red silk draped gown by Louis Vuitton. The saturated hue and sculpted draping gave the look its impact without the need for embellishment.

Kate O’Flynn, who won supporting actress for ‘Widow’s Bay’, opted for an off-the-shoulder pewter and ivory gown with a sheer skirt and floral embellishments. Boucheron pendant earrings and a matching ring completed the look.

Jean Smart, who secured her fifth consecutive lead actress win for ‘Hacks’, wore a black dress with a shimmering top, bringing a touch of sparkle to an otherwise restrained look.

Allison Janney took a more dramatic route in a black Pamella Roland dress with a pink feathered neckline, paired with Sabyasachi jewellery. The feathered detail gave the classic black dress a playful finish.

Tailoring Took Center Stage
At the 2026 Emmy Awards, Matthew Rhys wore a classic black tuxedo featuring sharp satin lapels. He paired the suit with a traditional white dress shirt, a standard black bow tie, and a gold watch on his wrist.

His clean, timeless look kept the focus entirely on his historic double acting wins.

Noah Wyle opted for a light-coloured Brunello Cucinelli suit, offering a softer alternative to the conventional black tuxedo while retaining a formal finish.
The winners collectively showed how different fashion languages can work on the same red carpet.
