Inside New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2027: The Shows, Designers & Trends to Know

NYFW Spring/Summer 2027 arrives September 10, headlined by Sabyasachi's long awaited debut and a historic fur free milestone

New York is the city that gave American style its clean, confident vocabulary of tailoring and eases, the birthplace of ready-to-wear as a serious creative discipline, and the stage where designers from Halston to Tom Ford to today’s new guard have shaped how the world dresses. Twice a year, that legacy compresses into a single week of runway shows, and this September, the city once again positions itself as the place where fashion’s next chapter gets written first.

New York’s runway season returns on September 10 with a calendar that reads less like routine scheduling and more like a season staking a claim. The official schedule, organised by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), runs from September 10 to September 15 with several designers, including Ralph Lauren, Coach, Rachel Comey, Cult Gaia, J. Press and Libertine, showing on September 9, the eve of the official opening. Out of respect for the 25th anniversary of September 11, that Friday’s schedule will begin at 10 am rather than its usual early start.

Debuts Rewrite the Roster

The week launches with CFDA member Henry Zankov’s debut collection as artistic director for Diane von Furstenberg and closes with Thom Browne, and the preliminary schedule between those two bookends features 70 runway shows and designer presentations, with additional collections premiering by appointment and digitally.

This edition’s real headline, though, is who’s arriving rather than who’s returning. Sabyasachi is making his official New York Fashion Week debut after 17 years away from the city on September 15, bringing a richness of craft, embroidery, and cultural depth unlike anything else on the schedule.

London-based Conner Ives and Polish luxury label Magda Butrym are also new to the official lineup, both having built serious momentum through editorial placements and celebrity dressing.

Established houses are recalibrating too. Calvin Klein Collection returns with a creative rebuild that’s been closely watched across the industry, with early scheduling placing the show around the middle of the week. Per the early published calendar, Khaite, Prabal Gurung, and Anna Sui are set to share a single day, three designers whose sensibilities diverge sharply yet, together, capture what New York does distinctively well, while COS and Magda Butrym are expected to land later in the week, reflecting the season’s increasingly global reach. As with any preliminary schedule, exact dates for individual shows may still shift before the week begins. Thom Browne’s closing slot on September 15 isn’t incidental either: his shows function less like traditional presentations and more like theatrical statements, ending the week on a note meant to provoke thought rather than simply sell clothes.

A Fur-Free Milestone

Beyond the lineup, this season carries structural weight. Following an announcement made in September 2025, the CFDA’s fur-free policy takes effect for every brand showing on the official schedule, a first for New York and a benchmark that pulls the city ahead of its international counterparts on the issue.

Designers are expected to respond with innovative textiles, faux alternatives, and heritage materials, while several major names have already signaled a return to precise, structured tailoring filtered through an American lens ahead of the shows.

On the trend front, early previews point to a season led by colour. Forecasters expect jewel-toned blues and warm, citrus-leaning shades to anchor tailored separates and eveningwear alike, while print looks set for a comeback after several seasons of minimalism, with paisleys and reworked animal-skin motifs both tipped to reappear.

Sustainability, meanwhile, is shaping up as a genuine design principle rather than marketing language, with several brands expected to foreground supply chains and material choices as part of their runway storytelling.

Between the debuts, the closures, and the policy shift, SS27 is shaping up as one of New York’s more consequential seasons, proof that the city’s claim to fashion’s centre still holds.
