Automotive engineering meets haute horlogerie in six extraordinary creations that bring the spirit of legendary engines, racing technology and high performance to the wrist

There is something rather irresistible about the relationship between a finely engineered automobile and a beautifully constructed mechanical watch. Both are born out of an obsession with precision, performance and the pursuit of perfection. One measures its achievements in horsepower, acceleration and top speed, while the other demonstrates its prowess through complications, frequency, power reserve and mechanical ingenuity. Yet, their shared fascination goes much deeper than technical specifications. The sculpted lines of a supercar, the architecture of an engine block, the intricate workings of a gearbox and even the character of a racing cockpit have inspired some of the most unconventional timepieces in contemporary watchmaking. For luxury maisons, collaborations with automotive marques have become opportunities to push the boundaries of traditional horology, creating watches that do considerably more than borrow a famous badge. Some feature miniature engines, others incorporate materials developed for motorsport, while a few reinterpret the very way time is displayed. Whether inspired by the ferocious engineering of a Bugatti, the Italian flair of a Lamborghini or the electrifying performance of a Pininfarina hypercar, these creations celebrate two worlds united by mechanical ambition. Outlook Luxe takes a look at six watches that bring the thrill of the open road to the wrist.

Jacob & Co. Bugatti Tourbillon

Few watches take automotive inspiration as literally as the Jacob & Co. Bugatti Tourbillon.

Few watches take automotive inspiration as literally as the Jacob & Co. Bugatti Tourbillon. Developed alongside Bugatti, the timepiece mirrors the architecture of the marque’s V16-powered hypercar through its 52mm titanium case, sculpted front grille and sapphire side windows. At its centre sits a miniature V16 engine block automaton, complete with 16 moving pistons, while a 30-second flying tourbillon adds another layer of mechanical theatre. The manually wound JCAM55 calibre comprises 557 components and offers an 80-hour power reserve. Its jumping retrograde hours and minutes echo a car’s RPM counter, making this an extraordinary marriage of automotive design and haute horlogerie.

Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Huracán Sterrato

The Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Huracán Sterrato channels the adventurous character of Lamborghini's all-terrain supercar

The Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Huracán Sterrato channels the adventurous character of Lamborghini’s all-terrain supercar into a bold 45mm creation. Its carbon case and black DLC titanium bezel reflect the lightweight engineering and rugged attitude of the Huracán Sterrato, while orange detailing and a camouflage-patterned strap recall the car’s distinctive personality. Beneath the openworked construction sits the automatic RD630 calibre, developed for the Lamborghini partnership. Its balance wheel is tilted at 12 degrees, while twin barrels deliver a 60-hour power reserve. Even the rotor draws inspiration from a supercar wheel rim, giving the watch a distinctly automotive mechanical identity.

Hublot MP-05 LaFerrari

Created in collaboration with Ferrari, the Hublot MP-05 LaFerrari

Created in collaboration with Ferrari, the Hublot MP-05 LaFerrari is less a conventional wristwatch and more a mechanical sculpture. Its elongated black PVD titanium case takes inspiration from the aerodynamic silhouette of the LaFerrari, while the movement is arranged vertically to resemble an engine assembly. The manually wound calibre comprises 637 components and uses 11 interconnected barrels to deliver an astonishing 50-day power reserve. A suspended tourbillon and cylindrical time displays further distinguish its unconventional construction. Developed in parallel with the hypercar, the MP-05 represents Hublot’s ability to translate automotive engineering into an extraordinary horological experience.

IWC Big Pilot’s Watch Constant-Force Tourbillon Edition AMG ONE OWNERS

Reserved exclusively for future owners of the Mercedes-AMG ONE, this IWC creation brings Formula One-derived engineering into haute horlogerie. The Big Pilot’s Watch Constant-Force Tourbillon Edition AMG ONE OWNERS features a case made from titanium aluminide, an advanced material also used in high-performance engine components for its strength and heat resistance. Its black dial incorporates a constant-force tourbillon at nine o’clock, a double moon-phase display and a power-reserve indicator inspired by a tachometer. Petronas green accents and an outer dial structure resembling the AMG ONE’s air intakes complete the automotive connection. It is a rare expression of motorsport technology translated into watchmaking.

Bovet Battista Tourbillon

The Bovet Battista Tourbillon celebrates the design philosophy of Automobili Pininfarina's all-electric hyper-GT.

The Bovet Battista Tourbillon celebrates the design philosophy of Automobili Pininfarina’s all-electric hyper-GT. Developed through a collaboration between the two houses, the 45.6mm timepiece combines titanium and sapphire crystal with a sculptural movement architecture that reveals its mechanical details from both sides. Its asymmetrical blue displays, distinctive Triangolo pattern and flowing bridges take inspiration from the Battista’s exterior design. At its heart is an in-house hand-wound movement with a patented double-sided flying tourbillon, large date and an impressive 10-day power reserve. A patented spherical winding system adds further ingenuity, making this a striking tribute to Italian automotive design and Swiss craftsmanship.

Parmigiani Fleurier Bugatti Type 370

Introduced in 2004, the Parmigiani Fleurier Bugatti Type 370 remains one of the most unconventional

Introduced in 2004, the Parmigiani Fleurier Bugatti Type 370 remains one of the most unconventional automotive-inspired watches ever created. Developed in association with Bugatti and inspired by the Veyron, it reimagines the movement as a transverse mechanical assembly, drawing parallels with the architecture of an automobile’s engine and gearbox. Rather than placing the dial conventionally on the wrist, the time display sits laterally, allowing the wearer to read it from the side. Its manually wound PF370 calibre features a 10-day power reserve and is visible through multiple sapphire windows. An inventive driver’s watch, the Type 370 challenged traditional watchmaking design with remarkable mechanical imagination.
