Riding The Big Wave: In Conversation With Tudor Ambassador Clément Roseyro

The newly-minted Tudor brand ambassador, surfer Clément Roseyro talks about his love for the outdoors, navigating choppy waters, overcoming challenges, and, of course watches

March 21, 2025

Just like a fish to water, Clément Roseyro took to surfing quite naturally as he was initiated into the sport from as early on as the age of six. The rest, as they say, is history… Popularly known as the ‘French Waterman’, Roseyro won the recently concluded Tudor Nazaré Big Wave Challenge, and has been brought onboard as the brand’s newest ambassador. The surfing champion resonates firmly with their ‘Born to Dare’ philosophy as he keeps pushing the boundaries when it comes to water sports. Excerpts from his conversation with Outlook Luxe

How did your association with Tudor come about and what have been the major highlights of this partnership?

My association with Tudor came about naturally, as Nic von Rupp is my teammate in the Big Wave surfing at Nazaré and that made the connection. It’s always great when a team is united not only by passion but also by common sponsors. Of course, the best moment was the day after I received my Tudor Pelagos—when I won the Tudor Nazaré Big Wave Challenge in February.

What is it about Tudor that resonates most with your personality?

I think their signature ‘Born to Dare’, says it all. Since I was a kid, I’ve always dared to try every sport and push my limits to the maximum. The reliability and resilience of their watches are also qualities that I greatly admire.

You won the Tudor Nazaré Big Wave Challenge 2025. What was the biggest hurdle you had to overcome during this competition?

The biggest challenge was all those years of training and self-questioning; wondering if I was really made for this. I’ve always had that spark inside me, believing that one day I would make it to the top. But today, my dream has come true. The pressure on competition day was outweighed by all the training that came before and having a strong team also helped.

Which is your favourite watch from Tudor and why?

The Tudor Pelagos 42mm is my favourite. I would have said the black one was my top choice, but since I won wearing the blue version, I’m now obsessed with it. It’s like my good luck charm for life. With its titanium case, this watch is incredibly strong so it’s made for water sports and rough terrains.

How did your interest in surfing come about? What is it that thrills you the most about this sport and what are the major challenges that you’ve had to overcome?

I’ve always been drawn to the water, ever since I was a baby. I learned to surf as a child, and since then, it has become more than just a passion; it’s a true love story with the waves and the sport itself. That’s also why I surf big waves; I love them, they love me, and we are connected, always pushing to make each ride more beautiful. I think my biggest challenge was when I was young and got scared for the first time. Since then, I believe my connection with the ocean has evolved.

Do you wear a watch while surfing? If yes, can you highlight one instance where it’s helped you while you’re navigating the choppy waters?

Yes, I’ve always worn a watch while surfing. It might be hard to believe, but the connection with my Pelagos is so important and reassuring, especially when surfing big waves. Underwater, my focus visualises the watch hands moving second by second, which makes time feel more peaceful while I’m holding my breath.

If not surfing then what would you have chosen as a profession?

If we stay within sports, I’m really drawn to motorbikes. Otherwise, I love sharing my passion with people. I was a lifeguard, but being a firefighter would have been a great path as well—I enjoy helping others and passing on knowledge.

Tell us about your fitness and training routine.

I don’t really have a strict routine. I make sure to stretch properly, and depending on the swell season, I go to the gym more or less. I also do a lot of road cycling to maintain a consistent level of fitness.

How do you keep yourself constantly motivated to perform better?

There are ups and downs, but I’ve always needed to do multiple sports to stay motivated. Having a sponsor like Tudor also helps to turn dreams into reality working with an amazing team, meeting incredible people, and constantly chasing after dreams. That’s the best motivation for me.

What are your future goals?

With all my sports – kiteboarding, foiling, surfing, longboarding, and stand-up paddling I have so many projects in mind. My life might not be long enough to accomplish everything, but the goal is to just enjoy it, achieve new things, dream, travel, meet people, and inspire others by creating extraordinary projects.
