As we enter the final week of March, the month still has a few surprises up its sleeve, with sudden shifts in the weather. Winds seem cooler, specially up here in Northern India. Rains have casted a spell of elixir after unexpectedly scorching heat, earlier this month. Flowers, that have long awaited to be blossomed are out in full bloom. The air feels fresh, clearer, and just right to not wait for weekend plans and hit the road right away for outdoorsy activities.

Colours of Phulkari
The Nabha Foundation brings Phulkari of Punjab for a one-day showcase. Expect a display of rare archival Phulkari Baghs passed from mother to daughters during weddings, shawls and dupattas, interpretive textile panels narrating the craft’s evolution celebrating the craft of women artisans of the Nabha( Patiala) region. The highlight of the showcase is an artisan led collaboration with designer Pratima Pandey, featuring contemporary silhouettes crafted from Phulkari embroidered by women artisans of rural Punjab.

Read Between The Lines
Sanya Malik’s Black Cube Gallery and Shantanu Sharma present Line as Witness, a rich canyon of years of work by Gwalior born award-winning artist Yusuf. The art show brings acrylic paintings, mixed media explorations, and sculptural forms exploring line as a fundamental unit through which the world becomes visible. It speaks of an ongoing conversation between control and freedom, discipline and flow, presence and absence.

Epistemology Behind Sculptures
Artist Mayur Kailash Gupta’s What Form Retains is his way to propose material enquiry. The Baroda-based sculptor brings three-dimensional and relief forms crafted in bronze, stone, wood, and paper pulp. “They ask us to stand in front of them, to measure ourselves against axis and centre, to experience containment not as limitation but as strength,” says Bhavna Kakar, Founder-Director, LATITUDE 28.

Re-purpose with Kantha
If you love exploring India’s textile crafts, Threads that Bind explores Kantha quilting traditions of Bengal. Curated by Amit Vijaya, in collaboration with utsaco, the exhibition lies at the intersection of craft, design, and contemporary textile practice. The showcase highlights reuse over replacement, continuity over disposal with this centuries-old embroidery technique.

Sufi In My Ears
Jahan-e-Khusrau, India’s celebrated World Sufi Music Festival, returns to the capital at the historic Purana Qila. Conceived and curated by cultural visionary Muzaffar Ali, the festival brings Sufi music, poetry, and spiritual heritage with a coming together of artists, scholars, and audiences from across the world. Expect impressive acts from Satinder Sartaj, Sukhwinder Singh, Hansraj Hans, Lakhwinder Wadali and more.

Looking for that one interdisciplinary exhibition? Pancha-Tattva: Material Matters – Crafting Art, Architecture and Design, curated by Ankon Mitra and presented by Meghna Agarwala, brings together 29 artists, architects, and designers, exploring the deep relationship between maker and material through the philosophy of the five cosmic elements – Pancha-Tattva.
