There is a strange thing happening in the world of cars. Everyone keeps making vehicles bigger, smarter and more practical, but somewhere along the way many forget the most important ingredient: personality. Fortunately, MINI has never been interested in building just another machine to move people from A to B. The new MINI Countryman C proves that even when a MINI grows into a proper SUV, it can still keep that playful spark that made the brand famous. It is taller, roomier and more capable, but underneath the modern technology and increased size sits the same cheeky character that has always made MINI different.

The Countryman has always been the MINI that refused to follow the usual rules

The Countryman has always been the MINI that refused to follow the usual rules. Originally, created as the brand’s adventurous family member, it expanded the idea of what a MINI could be while preserving the iconic design language and driving experience. Now, the latest generation takes that philosophy further by becoming the first Countryman to be locally produced in India at BMW Group Plant Chennai. It brings together MINI heritage with a more practical SUV format designed for modern urban luxury buyers.

The new MINI Countryman C immediately announces its arrival with a stronger road presence. Its dominating proportions, increased height and segment-leading ground clearance give it a commanding stance without losing the familiar MINI silhouette. The sculpted bonnet, wider wheel arches, short overhangs and distinctive octagonal grille create a design that looks ready for both city streets and weekend escapes. The clean surfaces and flush door handles remove unnecessary visual clutter, while the redesigned LED headlights and matrix rear lights add a futuristic touch with three selectable signature lighting modes. Available in colours including British Racing Green, Smokey Green, Nanuq White, Slate Blue and Chilli Red, the Countryman C combines classic MINI attitude with a more premium appearance. The 19-inch Kaleido Spoke two-tone alloy wheels and Jet Black roof further enhance its athletic personality.

Inside, MINI has completely transformed the cabin into a digital playground while keeping the familiar sense of fun. The centrepiece is the 240mm circular OLED MINI Interaction Unit, replacing traditional displays with a high-resolution touchscreen experience. The dashboard follows a minimalist approach, using sustainable textile surfaces instead of traditional materials, creating a cabin that feels modern rather than overloaded.

The electronically adjustable JCW Sports Seats in Vescin Vintage Brown add a performance-inspired touch, while the driver enjoys Active Seat massage functionality. Rear passengers are not forgotten either, with seats that recline up to 25 degrees and slide up to 130mm. The practical side of the Countryman appears through its 505-litre boot, which expands to 1,450 litres with the rear seats folded.

Of course, a MINI without performance would be like a race car without a steering wheel: technically possible, but completely pointless. The Countryman C uses the latest MINI TwinPower Turbo petrol technology, producing 156 hp and 240 Nm of torque. The 7-speed Double Clutch Steptronic Sport transmission balances efficiency with quick responses, while the brand’s famous go-kart feeling remains central to the driving experience.

The MINI Experience Modes take this personality further, offering eight different driving environments ranging from the energetic Go-Kart Mode to the efficiency-focused Green Mode. These modes adjust the atmosphere inside the cabin through lighting, graphics and sound, turning even a normal commute into something more entertaining.

Technology is everywhere, but thankfully it does not feel like a gadget showroom on wheels. MINI Operating System 9 supports touchscreen and voice control, while the MINI Intelligent Personal Assistant responds to “Hey MINI” commands. The MINI Digital Key Plus turns a smartphone into the vehicle key, while features such as Head-Up Display, Harman Kardon 12-speaker audio, wireless charging, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto complete the experience. Safety has also moved forward, with advanced driver assistance systems including Parking Assistant Plus, 360-degree camera, Cruise Control and multiple electronic safety systems. The Countryman C has achieved a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, proving that style and security can coexist.

The answer is simple: not really. It has just learned a few new tricks. The new Countryman C is larger, smarter and more mature, but it still carries the one thing that cannot be engineered into a car: character. It is a reminder that growing up does not mean becoming boring.
