Nitanshi Goel, 17, gave a moving tribute at the 78th Cannes Film Festival in besides making a fashion statement. Renowned for her breakthrough performance in the Oscar-shortlisted Laapataa Ladies, Nitanshi made a graceful, meaningful, and deeply rooted tribute to the women who laid foundations for Indian cinema as she entered the global fashion scene.

Nitanshi’s debut was nothing short of ethereal on the famous steps of Cannes, where fashion creates history and legends are created. She was physically donning her roots in her hair while wearing a handmade white saree. Miniature pictures of Bollywood’s finest actresses, including Madhubala, Nargis, Meena Kumari, Nutan, Waheeda Rehman, Asha Parekh, Vyjayanthimala, Hema Malini, Rekha, and Sridevi, were delicately fastened throughout her sleek braid. In addition to being accessories, the historic hairpins made a statement and served as a nostalgic trip down memory lane, honouring decades of artistic and feminine greatness.

Nitanshi’s saree, which was styled by the creative team of Urja Amin and Shrey Vaishnav, was a flawless fusion of modern elegance and heritage. A hand-beaded pearl shirt was worn with the ivory drape, evoking memories of heritage embroidery and the classic beauty of Indian handicraft. Nitanshi let the ensemble—and the legends she honored—shine through with her youthful demeanour and sparse accessory use.

A graceful dichotomy that mirrored the legacy of the very women she honoured, her presence on the red carpet was subdued yet ruling. This thoughtful ensemble served as a reminder to the world that, in an era of rapid fashion and ephemeral fads, style that is grounded in narrative can become remembered.

Her second appearance was a foray into the future of Indian couture, whereas her first presence was a tribute to the past.

Nitanshi made a stunning comeback to the red carpet on May 15th, this time as a symbol of audacious elegance, for the screening of the French crime drama Dossier 137. The actress, once again dressed by JADE by Monica and Karishma, wore a beautiful black and gold gown that blended modern elements with timeless splendour.

The elaborate kasab lace embroidery and macrame details on the custom strapless cage gown gave the silhouette a hint of mysticism. The translucent tulle train that floats behind her adds drama and whimsy, while a corseted bodice with gold flower embellishments provides rigidity and regality. The gown did more than just sparkle; it conveyed a tale of transition and a young artist asserting her place in the world of cinema.

Speaking about the vision behind the gown, designer Monica Shah revealed, “Nitanshi embodies a fresh, fearless femininity. We wanted her debut to feel magical—almost like stepping into a fairytale, but with strength.” And that’s exactly what the look delivered: a poetic fusion of softness and strength, innocence and allure.

Nitanshi was styled once more by Shrey and Urja, with simple yet appealing accessories. Her outfit was enhanced without being overshadowed by a beautiful finger ring, serpent-patterned earrings, and a gold swirl choker. Her makeup look, which included glossy pink lips, a gentle updo, and glowing flushed cheeks, gave off the ideal amount of young elegance.

The two looks blended to create a powerful portrayal of a rising star who honours the past while confidently embracing the future. Nitanshi Goel walked a legacy with her Cannes debut, not just a red carpet. Through this, she served as a reminder to all of us that storytelling is the real definition of style and that the greatest tales are perhaps those that are embroidered with memories, stitched into silk, and worn with pride.
