Dior Names Jonathan Anderson As Sole Creative Director – A First Since Christian Dior Himself

Dior ushers in a new era with Jonathan Anderson’s landmark appointment as sole creative director across all lines

June 3, 2025

In a historic moment for the world of luxury fashion, Dior has appointed Jonathan Anderson as the sole creative director of the house, entrusting him with the women’s, men’s, and haute couture collections. This marks the first time since the brand’s founder, Christian Dior, that a single visionary will lead all facets of the label’s creative direction.

The announcement, made via Instagram on both Dior’s official account and Anderson’s personal profile, puts to rest months of industry speculation. Dior declared, “For the first time at Christian Dior couture, since Monsieur Dior, a creative director will work on all the women’s, men’s, and haute couture collections, further strengthening its global creative vision.”

Anderson, 40, hails from Northern Ireland’s County Derry and is the son of a former international rugby player. He rose through the fashion industry with surprising haste; often compared to Karl Lagerfeld for his versatility, intelligence, and showmanship. Anderson is today regarded by many as one of the most bold and creative designers of his generation. He is best known for bringing the Spanish brand Loewe back to prominence under the LVMH banner.

“It is a great honour to join the house of Dior as creative director of both women’s and men’s collections,” Anderson shared in his own announcement. “I have always been inspired by the rich history of this House, its depth, and empathy. I look forward to working alongside its legendary ateliers to craft the next chapter of this incredible story.”

His first major unveiling will be Dior Men Summer 2026, scheduled for June 27, 2025, during Paris Fashion Week. A primary womenswear debut is expected later this year.

Delphine Arnault, chair and chief executive of Dior, hailed the appointment, stating, “Jonathan Anderson is the most talented designer of his generation. I am convinced that he will bring a creative and modern vision to our House, inspired by the fabulous story of Monsieur Dior and the codes he created.”

For Dior, Anderson’s appointment marks a critical turning point. To emphasise the seriousness of this change and give Anderson more time to properly implement his vision, the design company will forego its customary July haute couture display, a first in its 78-year history.

For the 2023 Super Bowl halftime show, Anderson created Rihanna's instantly recognisable pregnancy reveal ensemble.

High-profile cultural events have contributed to the designer’s rapid ascent. For the 2023 Super Bowl halftime show, he created Rihanna’s instantly recognisable pregnancy reveal ensemble.

At the 2024 Met Gala, Ariana Grande looked stunning in a custom Anderson design. Perhaps most famously, Harry Styles’ multicoloured patchwork cardigan went viral and eventually made its way to the fashion collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum.

In addition, his arrival marks the end of a chapter for Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior’s long-time womenswear creative director, who recently made a bow in Rome amidst whispers of change.
