LVMH, L’Oréal And EssilorLuxottica May Take A Slice Of Giorgio Armani’s Empire

Giorgio Armani’s fashion empire is entering a new chapter after his passing. LVMH, L’Oréal and EssilorLuxottica are among the preferred potential investors for a 15% stake, with the holding potentially divided between them. The move forms part of Armani’s succession plan and could reshape the ownership of his iconic Italian fashion house

Giorgio Armani spent more than five decades building one of fashion’s most recognisable independent houses. Now, nearly a year after his death, the future of that empire is beginning to take shape. LVMH, L’Oréal and EssilorLuxottica are among the names that could acquire a slice of the business, with a 15% stake at the centre of the first stage of Armani’s carefully planned succession.

The possibility is striking not simply because of the names involved, but because of what it could mean for one of the last great fashion houses still built around its founder’s name and vision.

A 15% Slice of Armani

Armani’s succession plan was designed to keep the transition gradual. His will requires an initial 15% stake in the company to be sold within 12 to 18 months of his death. Three to five years later, a larger stake could follow or the company could pursue a stock-market listing.

The first transaction could now take an unexpected shape. Giuseppe Marsocci, CEO of the Armani Group, has said the 15% holding does not necessarily have to go to one buyer.

It could instead be divided among several investors, with LVMH, L’Oréal and EssilorLuxottica among the preferred names. No final decision has been made, and the eventual structure will depend on negotiations around the deal. That makes the Giorgio Armani 15% stake sale less about an immediate change of control and more about introducing carefully selected partners into the house.

The three potential investors are not unfamiliar names in Armani’s world. L’Oréal has a long-standing beauty partnership with the brand, while EssilorLuxottica has worked with Armani on eyewear for decades.

LVMH, meanwhile, brings the weight of one of the world’s largest luxury groups, with interests spanning fashion, jewellery, beauty, hospitality and spirits.

Why These Three Matter

A shared investment would also create an unusual ownership structure for the Giorgio Armani fashion empire. Rather than one conglomerate immediately absorbing the house, three established luxury players could potentially hold smaller pieces of it.

Earlier reports suggested the possibility of each group taking a 5% stake, though that remains only one scenario and has not been confirmed. For L’Oréal and EssilorLuxottica, a stake would deepen relationships they already have with Armani through beauty and eyewear. For LVMH, an investment would offer a connection to an independent Italian luxury house whose identity has remained closely tied to its founder.

That distinction matters particularly in this case. Armani did not simply build a label, he built an entire Giorgio Armani empire, spanning fashion, accessories, beauty, eyewear, hospitality and interiors. The challenge now is preserving that breadth while allowing the business to evolve beyond its founder.

There are already signs of that transition. Dario Vitale, formerly associated with Miu Miu and Versace, has taken on the role of creative director of Emporio Armani and will also oversee Giorgio Armani accessories, bringing a new creative voice to the house.

However, Armani’s succession was never meant to happen overnight. His plans allowed the house to evolve gradually, while keeping the identity he built over more than five decades firmly in place. Now, that next chapter is beginning to take shape.

Whether LVMH, L’Oréal and EssilorLuxottica ultimately share the 15% stake or another arrangement emerges, the move could bring some of the biggest names in luxury closer to one of fashion’s most enduring independent houses.
