Paris Haute Couture Week has entered its most anticipated stretch, where the conversation is not limited to what walked the runway but what each collection represents. Adding to the spectacle is couture’s ability to preserve heritage, celebrate craftsmanship and redefine the future of luxury.

Manish Malhotra made his historic debut on July 8 on the official Paris Haute Couture Week calendar. Presenting his collection, ‘Maa’, the couturier brought generations of Indian craftsmanship to one of fashion’s most exclusive global platforms, marking a defining moment for Indian couture.

The debut also reflected the growing global recognition of India’s textile heritage, hand embroidery and artisanal expertise, long admired by international luxury houses but now taking centre stage under an Indian label.

The collection explored themes of motherhood, memory and legacy through a rich tapestry of handwoven textiles, metallic embroidery, zardozi, sequins and sculptural silhouettes. Rather than adapting Indian aesthetics to suit a global audience, the collection confidently presented traditional craftsmanship in its purest form, demonstrating that Indian couture belongs among the world’s finest expressions of fashion.

Among the notable attendees was Isha Ambani, who wore a custom handwoven gold tissue ensemble by Manish Malhotra, styled with heirloom jewellery from Nita Ambani’s personal collection. The look reflected the collection’s emphasis on generational heritage and timeless craftsmanship, reinforcing the narrative that ran through ‘Maa’.

More Runway Moments

While Manish Malhotra’s debut became one of the defining moments of the week, Paris Haute Couture Week Autumn/Winter 2026 continued to showcase the extraordinary diversity of contemporary couture. From theatrical presentations to understated elegance, designers demonstrated that haute couture remains as much about storytelling as it is about technical mastery.

Another defining moment came with Pierpaolo Piccioli’s haute couture debut for Balenciaga. The Italian designer honoured founder Cristóbal Balenciaga’s architectural legacy while bringing his own poetic approach to couture through sculptural tailoring, sweeping volumes and rich colour. The collection signalled a new creative era for the maison, blending archival codes with Piccioli’s distinctly emotional design language.

The week also saw Gigi Hadid make her return to the haute couture runway after four years, making headlines with her dramatic appearance in Piccioli’s debut Balenciaga show. Beyond the celebrity moments, collections across Paris continued to champion meticulous craftsmanship, archival references and contemporary storytelling, reaffirming haute couture’s enduring relevance in luxury fashion.
