1984 Commemorative Collection

Steering towards a new direction with premiumisation at their heart, the 40th anniversary releases speak loudly about their future vision. Suparna Mitra, CEO of the Watches and Wearables division,Titan Company Ltd, on the evening of the 40th anniversary celebrations shared how the anniversary collection is one that simultaneously pays tribute to the past and welcomes the future. In a brief chat, we ask her how the idea of creating the Titan Flying Tourbillon came about, and she says, “The idea of tourbillon came out a simple conversation on a trip to Switzerland. We were seeing the best watches and the best watch brands and there was this yearning to do something. There was this one moment when some of us said, let’s do it! It was this big audacious goal but we decided to crack it. We have a crack design team, engineering team, and they all came together along with the help of different collaborators. The only question we asked ourselves was if Titan needs to create a tourbillion, what are the steps we need to achieve it. And once we got down to it, we achieved some of the steps earlier than I imagined and by June-July we knew we had it. The kind of joy, self confidence and pride that this feat has given us at Titan and to proud Indians who love watches has been truly overwhelming. Today, we have customers who are proudly donning Indian brands, as they know the ethos of the brands and their capabilities well. We are here to reflect that coming of age of modern Indian brands. Looking at the spectacular response, we will continue to make more variants of tourbillions in the future since there is a lot of interest.”
