Jaipur has a way of revealing itself in details. It could be the intricate latticework of a jali window, the symmetry of an old doorway or the changing colours of its façades as the evening light fades. For Raniwala 1881, these familiar sights have become the starting point for a jewellery collection that looks beyond the Pink City’s palaces and monuments to explore the character of the city itself.

The Jaipur-based fine jewellery house has unveiled ‘The Jaipur Edit’, a collection that draws on the architecture, sporting traditions and social rituals that have shaped Jaipur’s cultural identity. With the city approaching its 300th year, the collection offers a personal interpretation of its heritage, translating everyday observations and longstanding traditions into design.

Rather than reproduce recognisable landmarks, Raniwala 1881 looks to the smaller details that give the city its distinctive visual language. The geometry of a jali, the rhythm of an arch and the movement of a polo match inform three chapters that capture different sides of Jaipur, from its ceremonial grandeur to its more intimate moments after sunset.

Architecture Becomes Ornament

The first chapter, ‘The Grand Hall’, takes its cues from Jaipur’s architectural spaces, including its jalis, balconies and ornate façades. These structures were designed not only to impress but also to create a particular relationship between privacy, observation and the outside world. The collection draws on this interplay of symmetry, scale and ornament to explore how architectural details can find expression in jewellery.

The idea offers a more nuanced way of looking at the city’s legacy. Its beauty lies not just in its grand structures but also in the craftsmanship and patterns woven into their smallest details. The collection offers a design narrative rooted in Jaipur’s visual memory rather than a straightforward reproduction of its monuments.

Polo, Pageantry and Jaipur After Dark

With ‘Chaugan’, the focus shifts from architecture to the sporting culture associated with Jaipur’s royal past. Inspired by polo, the chapter looks towards the movement, energy and pageantry surrounding the game. The reference brings a different rhythm to the collection, connecting the city’s aristocratic traditions with the sporting spectacle that continues to define its cultural imagination.

The final chapter, ‘Dusk’, turns to Jaipur after dark. Gerua-coloured façades, long shadows, quiet terraces and the anticipation of an evening out shape its mood. The emphasis is less on public ceremony and more on the atmosphere of dressing, celebration and the moments between one day and the next.

The three chapters present Indian heritage jewellery through the lens of a city that continues to evolve while remaining closely connected to its past. The collection also reflects how Jaipur’s architectural and cultural legacy can inform contemporary luxury design without losing its sense of place.

“For us, Jaipur has never been something we simply draw inspiration from. It is something we have lived around and continue to discover,” stated Abhishek and Abhiyant Raniwala, Co-Founders of Raniwala 1881 in the news release.

Established in Jaipur in 1881, the house is known for its Polki and diamond jewellery, bringing traditional techniques into conversation with contemporary design. With The Jaipur Edit, the city becomes more than a source of inspiration; it becomes the story itself, told through its architectural details, sporting traditions and the changing mood of its evenings.
