The Grammar Room’s New Summer Menu Is A Gentle Riot Of Flavours, And I’m Still Thinking About That Chicken Kra Pow

While The Grammar Room is known for its laid-back breakfast charm, the Chicken Kra Pow just rewrote the rulebook for what you must order next

There’s something about The Grammar Room that makes you slow down, even before the food arrives. Maybe it’s the way the sunlight filters through those huge windows, spilling soft golden light across wooden tables. Or the way the potted greens seem to breathe easy in every corner. Nestled quietly inside Khan Market, this all-day café has long been known for its breezy brunches and laid-back charm. But with its new summer menu, it’s rewriting a few house rules, and I, for one, am here for it.

I walked in on a sweltering July afternoon, the kind of day where iced drinks and light plates are all your body wants. The vibe inside was mellow, laptops open, pages flipping, someone tapping a spoon on their coffee cup. The kind of place where nobody’s in a rush, and that feels increasingly rare these days

Then Came The Chicken Kra Pow

I don’t say this lightly, but it might just be the most memorable thing I’ve eaten this season. A steaming bowl of jasmine rice, perfectly poached egg lounging on top, fiery minced chilli-garlic chicken tucked in with crispy shallots and crushed peanuts, it was humble, bold, and deeply comforting all at once. Every bite was a balancing act, heat from the chicken mellowed by the sweetness of the rice, crunch from the shallots, richness from that golden yolk. You could say I was quietly losing my mind over it.

But we didn’t stop there.

Teriyaki Sushi Tostada

The Teriyaki Sushi Tostada was next, and it brought a little drama to the table. Think of it as sushi gone rogue, sticky rice layered over a crisp nori base, scallion salsa playing backup, and grilled pineapple dropping in as the surprise guest. It felt like a vacation bite, unexpected, slightly sweet, and definitely not what you’d expect from sushi. But strangely, it worked, like dessert and dinner had decided to team up.

And just when I thought I couldn’t eat another bite, the Nutella pancakes floated in. Fluffy, warm, unapologetically indulgent. The kind of pancakes that blur the line between breakfast and dessert. Each forkful was soft and gooey, like someone took a hug and turned it into food.

Of course, we needed something to drink.

Jamaican Jerk Chicken

Athena 2.0, a gin cocktail that honestly tasted like a breeze. Jasmine tea steeped in coconut water with a squeeze of lime, it was delicate and tropical without going overboard. And from the mocktail side, Not Your Spicy Margarita turned out to be a bold little number. It arrived looking like a detox drink, a very leafy green, but one sip and you knew this wasn’t your average celery juice. Jalapeño, cilantro, lime, and agave came together to create a tangy, spicy, almost chapati-like kick. Strange? Yes. Addictive? Also yes.

The space? Imagine a grown-up treehouse with a coffee bar. Warm wooden interiors, crawling vines, sunlight puddling on your table. There’s only indoor seating, which might irk outdoor lovers, but honestly, you won’t miss the patio when the inside feels this good. Around me, there were solo diners reading quietly, besties deep in brunch convos, and couples leaning into lazy afternoon silence. The service? Warm smiles, no frills, exactly how I like it.

So What’s The Verdict?

The Grammar Room’s new menu doesn’t try to be flashy. It doesn’t scream to be noticed. Instead, it quietly surprises you, with flavours that make sense, textures that comfort, and dishes that you’ll still be thinking about days later. The Chicken Kra Pow alone deserves a second visit. But really, it’s the whole experience that makes you want to come back, when the world outside gets too loud and you just want good food in a good place.
