“It began with two students in Milan, sharing an espresso doppio and an opinion neither would back down from.” From Milan to Mumbai, cut to a million shoots together, a dozen stars dressed and countless stories shared, and what you have is a masala potboiler of a success story in which Pranay and Shounak are the real stars.

Training their honed eye on India’s handmade traditions, the two share an undying love for desi artisanal luxury that has become a story of its own.

Styling stars in heirloom-quality classics from Gaurang Shah, Raw Mango, Ritu Kumar and Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla, they have stayed true to their roots. “Nothing is more ethereal than a heirloom woven sari or a hand-embroidered, flowing aabha kurta. Or even an achkan to which a design maestro adds his own sense of chutzpah,” says Shounak.

Their client list reads like a shortlist of the country’s most photographed faces: Vidya Balan, Sara Ali Khan, Huma Qureshi, Radhika Apte, Kalki Koechlin, Rajkummar Rao and Siddhant Chaturvedi among them, with couture maestros Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla topping the list. Creating their campaigns and styling all their ramp shows, Pranay and Shounak felt fulfilment come full circle when Dimple Kapadia recently stepped out in a look styled by the pair. It moved past the fashion pages and into everyone’s feed, discussed and dissected for days.

“The job has never been just about the clothes,”say Pranay and Shounak. “It’s about deciding how a moment gets remembered, and giving every garment the mantle it deserves.”

Two cities, one relentless pursuit of fashion, and the quiet authors of its most iconic frames.
