Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla turned 40 this year. To mark it, they threw Mumbai a party it will not forget. The star studded gala unfolded at Mubarak Baug, their 20,000 square foot cultural home in South Mumbai’s century old Framjee Cawasjee Institute. It was less an anniversary bash and more a living museum. Every corner spoke to the depth of Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla craftsmanship built over four decades.
The setting made the milestone feel even more personal. Mubarak Baug was transformed into a visual journey through the designers’ world, bringing together their love for architecture, craft, couture and Indian heritage. The evening unfolded as a celebration of the details that have defined the house for four decades, with the venue offering guests a glimpse into the legacy behind the label.
Forty Years, One Legacy
The venue did the storytelling. Gilded surfaces met antique Gujarati architecture. A brass Mumbai skyline installation towered over a stepwell inspired amphitheatre. A nostalgic runway walked guests through the house’s journey since 1986.

Inside, a dedicated diamond jewellery room and a fashion archive waited to be explored. More than 250 craft swatches lined the walls, each one a note in the story of Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla couture. Madhuri Dixit’s original Chandramukh ghagra from Devdas made a quiet appearance too, a nod to the duo’s National Award winning costume design legacy.
Mumbai’s elite showed up in full couture force. Nita Ambani, Isha Ambani, Shloka Mehta and Radhika Merchant led the front row.
Nita Ambani wore a regal red saree with intricate geometric embroidery along the border and pallu, paired with a matching full-sleeved blouse and diamond jewellery that let the craftsmanship take centrestage. While Isha wore a fitted silver white ensemble with a crystal detailed neckline and layered diamond chokers.
Shloka picked an ivory and gold outfit with wide leg palazzos and a heavily embroidered top.
Radhika went with an embroidered jacket over a floral printed skirt. Statement embroidery and fluid silhouettes tied every look together, a clear thread through the Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla fashion legacy.
Couture Royalty Takes Centrestage
Indian film industry brought its own drama. Sonam Kapoor arrived in a white Anarkali laced with gold embroidery and double dupatta draping, styled by sister Rhea Kapoor.
Neetu Kapoor chose an ivory and beige kurta set with delicate floral work and emerald jewellery.
Navya Naveli Nanda stood out in a gold mini dress covered entirely in beadwork and coin embellishments.
Dimple Kapadia brought her signature understated elegance to the evening, wearing an ensemble that reflected the designers’ love for intricate craftsmanship.
Genelia Deshmukh opted for a polished traditional look, while Riteish Deshmukh complemented her in a sophisticated ensemble.
Asha Parekh, an enduring figure in Indian cinema, added old-school glamour to the celebrations. Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha brought their own modern sensibility to the occasion, with their looks balancing contemporary style with the house’s richly detailed aesthetic.
