Basilia 2027: The New Fair Bringing Watchmakers And Jewellers Back To Basel

A new international platform arrives in Basel, bringing Asia, Europe and the global jewellery and watch industry together through discovery, craftsmanship and commerce

For centuries, great cities have been created around exchange. Ports became centres of trade, crossroads became meeting points and certain locations gained importance simply because the world naturally gravitated towards them. In the world of watchmaking and jewellery, Basel has long carried that role. A city positioned between Switzerland, Germany and France, shaped by two thousand years of commerce, culture and connection.

Now, Basel prepares to write another chapter. In April 2027, Messe Basel will welcome the first edition of Basilia Jewellery & Watch Fair, a new international platform created through the collaboration of Informa Markets and MCH Group, two global forces behind some of the world’s most influential trade and cultural events.

Designed as a meeting point between Asia, Europe and the wider global industry

Designed as a meeting point between Asia, Europe and the wider global industry, Basilia aims to become more than an exhibition. It is imagined as a living ecosystem where brands, creators, retailers, collectors and industry leaders come together. Because in the world of luxury, the most valuable discoveries often happen beyond the display case. The creation of Basilia reflects the changing landscape of luxury. The jewellery and watch industries are no longer defined by one region or one market. Craftsmanship may come from Switzerland, gemstones may travel through international networks and collectors may exist anywhere in the world. Basilia is built around this reality.

With Informa Markets bringing its global jewellery expertise, including its flagship jewellery events

With Informa Markets bringing its global jewellery expertise, including its flagship jewellery events, and MCH Group contributing decades of experience in creating internationally recognised platforms, the fair aims to create a space where the entire ecosystem connects. It is not simply about showcasing products. It is about creating relationships. The central idea behind Basilia is Access through Discovery. Instead of approaching the fair as a traditional exhibition hall, the organisers have imagined it as a city. Visitors will move through neighbourhoods, districts, valleys, hubs, avenues, courtyards and piazzas, each representing different creative identities within the worlds of watches, jewellery and gemstones.

The concept reflects the way great cities reveal themselves. The best discoveries are rarely found by following a straight line. They happen when you explore. Basilia aims to create that same feeling: a journey where every corner offers something unexpected. The choice of Hall 2 at Messe Basel carries its own significance. Designed in 1954 by Swiss modernist architect Hans Hofmann, the building represents a period when architecture embraced simplicity, innovation and functionality. Its influence was so recognised that when Herzog & de Meuron later designed the new Hall 1, they referenced its architectural language.

At the heart of Hall 2 sits the striking circular courtyard known as the Rundhof

At the heart of Hall 2 sits the striking circular courtyard known as the Rundhof. A space built decades ago for gathering now becomes the centre of a new international conversation. A modern luxury event does not end when the doors close. Basel offers visitors a complete experience, with restaurants, galleries, cultural spaces and hospitality designed around international guests.

Conversations continue over dinner, partnerships develop over evening meetings and industry relationships grow beyond formal appointments. With thousands of hotel rooms, including accommodation close to Messe Basel, the city is prepared to welcome a global audience. The fair experience extends into the streets.
