Cartier has always treated the animal kingdom as a language of its own, turning panthers, tigers and elephants into some of the Maison’s most recognisable jewels. Now, five new creatures join that storied menagerie. The Gallery of Animal Portraits, launched globally on September 1, brings together a tiger, parrot, carp, crocodile and rhinoceros in sculptural rings and articulated pieces that blur the line between jewellery and sculpture. Fronted by new house ambassador Tilda Swinton, the collection gives Cartier’s century-old fascination with fauna a fresh sense of movement, colour and transformation.
Five Heads, One Language
Animals have anchored Cartier’s design language since the early 1900s, when birds and insects first entered the workshops. Reptiles, felines and chimeras followed, and the panther only took its now-iconic three-dimensional form in 1948.
The five new Faune et Flore de Cartier rings, a tiger, a parrot, a carp, a crocodile and a rhinoceros, echo a format the Maison first tested in the 2000s with its Panther head ring: the animal rendered not as a motif but as a head cast in the round, staring back at whoever is looking. Colour does the storytelling. The parrot pairs coral with tsavorite garnet, the rhinoceros sits in spessartite garnet and smoky quartz, the crocodile plays diamond against onyx and emerald, and the tiger and carp share a register of sapphire, aquamarine and dumortierite quartz, each palette drawn straight from the animal’s own habitat.

Two pieces push further into the body: sensory bracelet and necklace sets for the crocodile and tiger, where a sculpted head clasp gives way to a fully articulated, flexible chain built for movement on the wrist. The crocodile’s jaw genuinely bites the strap closed, its diamond scales echoing onyx spikes along the crest, while the tiger’s mouth conceals its own opening mechanism, engineered so the bracelet’s line never breaks. Both are finished with chrysoprase, rubellite or chalcedony beads set to catch light as the hand moves, a detail meant to be felt as much as seen.
The Panther Wears White
The Panthère de Cartier line, meanwhile, adds a tête-à-tête bracelet in white gold, its coat fully paved in geometric diamonds using an alternation of galuchat-effect and caviar paving, finished with emerald eyes ringed in fur setting. Matching earrings and a necklace extend the motif in rose gold with obsidian and onyx, alongside two Faune et Flore pins shaped as panther heads in white and yellow gold.

Cartier’s Pierre Rainero has described the house’s fauna as defined less by species than by the balance it holds between naturalism and stylisation, each creature built to carry a mood.
For a house whose panther has been reproduced and referenced for nearly eighty years, five new creatures and a fresh set of sensory bracelets are a quiet act of authorship, proof the menagerie is still being added to, one hand-carved horn and articulated jaw at a time.
