Iconic French Brand Launches In India At The Chanakya

Global French luxury crystal brand opens its first physical store at The Chanakya in Delhi

Baccarat, the iconic French Maison for over 260 years, has entered India once again as it begins a new chapter with the inauguration of a flagship in Delhi’s prestigious mall The Chanakya, housing luxury brands such as Dior and Rolex in its premises. Renowned for crafting true masterpieces, the luxury crystalware maison continues to inspire connoisseurs of luxury, embracing beauty, contemporary refinement, and unique experiences. For over two centuries, Baccarat has captivated the world’s most illustrious figures, winning the hearts of artists, icons, and lovers of life across generations—from Josephine Baker and the Princess of Monaco to Karl Lagerfeld and Kris Jenner.  What is surprising is that this isn’t its first entry in India. Not at all. In fact, Baccarat’s longstanding bond with India dates back to the 19th century, when it opened its retail branch in Bombay in 1886.

Baccarat’s India stint

Known for its appeal amongst royalty all over the world, the Maison was popular amongst India’s who’s who as well. It had patrons among Indian royalty, from the Maharajas of Kapurthala, Bikaner, Indore, and Baroda, who were charmed by the boldness and beauty of Baccarat’s masterpieces. They adorned their palaces with Baccarat crystal services, furnishings, decorative pieces and glassware. It’s connection with India was two way, as India’s culture spurred the creation of pieces such as the Ferrières furniture collection and the majestic Elephant Liquor Cabinet – presented at the 1878 Paris World Fair. Today, Baccarat continues to be relevant in the country amongst its elite, with the flagship store opening marking the beginning of a new era for the brand. Baccarat already has a strong presence in several Asian markets, including Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore, and is keen to explore India’s luxury market.

“Following Baccarat’s 260th anniversary, this new chapter in India marks a significant milestone in our journey. Expanding our presence in the region allows us to connect more closely with our Indian clientele. The flagship will be an immersion into Baccarat’s art de vivre, delivering a harmonious and memorable experience for our guests,” said Laurence Nicolas, CEO of Baccarat on its store opening.

To celebrate the opening, a majestic 84-light Zénith chandelier in clear and red crystal was exhibited on the ground floor of the shopping center starting April 19th. Merging tradition and modernity, this masterpiece evoked a sense of wonderment with its rich composition and facets, reflecting the generational legacy of its masterful artisans.

I’m delighted to collaborate with Baccarat as it deepens its roots in India. Embodying a legacy of exquisite craftsmanship, Baccarat aligns with India’s love of artistry, art of celebration and joy of living,” said Mandeep Singh, Director, Lux Abode, Baccarat’s partner in India, who is responsible for the brand’s presence in the country.
