The Origins of World Gin Day

Gin enthusiast Neil Houston in 2009 in Birmingham introduced the first World Gin Day to the world. However, the celebration took its shape especially after Emma Stokes, also known as GinMonkey and the author of The Periodic Table of Cocktails elevated the celebration.

Emma and Neil were already friends united by their passion for gin. In 2010, they decided to bring the celebration to a small gin bar in London, inviting some of Emma’s friends to join them for the occasion.

Emma officially took charge of World Gin Day in 2013 due to Neil’s work commitments and over the past decade, brought the day to such heights. This annual celebration has grown year on year, uniting over 200 million gin lovers on social media alone.
