The sound of music and poetry filled the air surrounding Safdarjung Tomb under Delhi’s moonlit sky as Sabhyata Foundation and Serendipity Arts collaborated to create Shaam-e-Ghazal.

The stage was set for an evening filled with melody and memories, with the iconic Safdarjung Tomb giving the perfect backdrop.

A night that brought together the timeless beauty of ghazals and the grandeur of one of Delhi’s most cherished monuments, creating a night that resonated with history, melody, and cultural revival.

The event was both the Sabhyata Foundation‘s first cultural exhibition under the Government of India’s Adopt a Heritage 2.0 initiative and Serendipity Arts’ tenth anniversary celebration. Supported by the Ministry of Culture and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the evening was graced by dignitaries including Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Hon’ble Union Minister of Culture & Tourism.

A Melodic Tribute to the Ghazal Legacy

Curated by tabla maestro Bickram Ghosh, Shaam-e-Ghazal featured stirring performances by vocalists Pratibha Singh Baghel and Prithvi Gandharv, whose renditions paid homage to the legends of the genre. From Ghulam Ali and Mehdi Hasan to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Pankaj Udhas, and Jagjit Singh. The evening wove together verses of love, loss, and longing, presenting a soulful blend of classical artistry and contemporary sensibility.

Against the architectural splendor of Safdarjung Tomb, the performance transformed the monument into a living stage.

Reviving Heritage Through Experience

For Sabhyata Foundation, Shaam-e-Ghazal was a continuation of its mission to reimagine India’s heritage sites as vibrant cultural spaces. Puneet Dalmia, MD, CEO, Dalmia Bharat Ltd. and Patron of Sabhyata Foundation, said, “Our historic monuments evoke immense pride for their artistry and cultural significance. At Sabhyata Foundation, we aim to preserve them as enduring spaces for cultural engagement and inspiration. The success of Shaam-e-Ghazal marks another milestone in our endeavour to honour and rejuvenate India’s heritage and make it accessible for everyone.”

For Serendipity Arts, the event represented more than a musical evening; it symbolized a decade of nurturing creativity and community through art. Reflecting on the milestone, Sunil Kant Munjal, Founder and Patron of Serendipity Arts, said, “As we celebrate ten years of Serendipity Arts, our vision continues to be rooted in artistic excellence, collaboration, and cultural exchange. Shaam-e-Ghazal at Safdarjung Tomb reflects that spirit—where heritage transforms into a living stage for creativity. In today’s world, culture builds empathy and teaches what education alone cannot.”

The Journey Continues In Goa

Shaam-e-Ghazal was both a tribute and a prelude, a melodic ode that set the tone for Serendipity Arts Festival’s 10th edition, scheduled from December 12–21, 2025 in Goa. The milestone festival promises its most expansive showcase yet, featuring over 150 projects across performing, visual, culinary, and craft-based arts.

As the notes of the ghazal faded into the night, Safdarjung Tomb stood illuminated—a reminder that India’s cultural legacy thrives not just in its monuments, but in the stories, songs, and collaborations that continue to breathe life into them.

More than just a concert, it was a reminder that India’s monuments are living storytellers. Such initiatives reaffirm that culture is not a relic of the past but a bridge to the future.
