Alia Bhatt is a stunner! There’s simply no debating it. She possesses that rare star quality – the kind that can transform even the simplest outfit into something that feels couture. With a face card that never declines and the flawless body of a 20-something super model, she could make the most unassuming ensemble look like high fashion.
Alia Bhatt Makes Her BAFTA Debut In Gucci
Recently, however, it feels like the actress has settled into a particularly safe sartorial formula. Classic silhouettes, predictable palettes, and familiar styling choices.

Take, for instance, her appearance at the 79th edition of the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) held at Royal Festival Hall on Sunday. Making her BAFTA debut, she attended as a presenter for Best Film Not in the English Language. As Gucci’s first Indian global ambassador, expectations were naturally sky-high.

The full-length creation by Demna featured a rounded halter neckline with a daring open back stealing all the attention. Side cut-outs accentuated her waist, while the body-contouring fit flowed seamlessly into a graceful, sweeping skirt. A soft white fur stole added that “oomph” factor to the whole look, blending timeless Hollywood elegance with a contemporary edge. She finished the outfit with sleek stilettos, a bold statement ring, and star-embellished drop earrings that brought a touch of sparkle to the ensemble.
Stunning? Absolutely. Surprising? Not quite.
Should Alia Bhatt Take More Sartorial Risks?

The BAFTA ensemble felt a little too similar to what she wore to the closing ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival last year. On that occasion, she stepped out in a silver-toned, sequin-drenched saree-inspired drape by Gucci, covered with the house’s iconic GG monogram. Soft, old Hollywood waves and a classic diamond tennis necklace completed the look.
There’s nothing wrong with consistency, but when you’re a fashion force like Alia, one can’t help but crave a little unpredictability.

When Alia Bhatt Embraces Her Roots
Where she truly shines, though, is in ensembles that celebrate her heritage. During Durga Puja last year, she embraced tradition in a breath-taking olive organza saree adorned with intricate golden motifs, shimmering silver borders, heavy sequin detailing, and fine zari embroidery.

Draped in a classic seedha pallu style, she paired it with a contrasting white blouse featuring a sweetheart neckline and full sleeves, accessorising with silver kundan-studded kanchain earrings and stacks of red and gold bangles. Soft curls parted down the middle framed her face, completing a look that felt authentic and timeless.

Alia Bhatt doesn’t need to prove she can look beautiful – she does, every single time. What would truly elevate her fashion narrative now is risk – an unexpected silhouette, a daring colour story, a dramatic reinvention. Because when someone of her stature steps outside the comfort zone, the whole world will stop and watch. Mark our words!
