Camikara Makes History: India’s First Gold-Winning Rum Goes Global

From sugarcane fields in India to a gold medal in London, Camikara is rewriting the story of Indian rum

In a landmark moment for Indian spirits, Camikara 3YO has made history by becoming the first Indian rum to win a Gold Medal at the Rum & Cachaça Masters Awards 2025—one of the most prestigious blind-tasting competitions in the world, held annually in London.

What makes this achievement even more remarkable? Camikara isn’t just any rum—it’s India’s first aged rum made from pure sugarcane juice, not the usual molasses. That’s right—no added colour, no added sugar, no shortcuts. Just pure cane juice, matured gracefully in oak barrels. And now, it has beaten global favourites from rum powerhouses like Jamaica, Martinique, and Barbados at their own game.

A Rum Born from Indian Roots

Despite being one of the world’s largest producers of sugarcane, India has long been left out of the premium rum conversation. Traditional Indian rums were mostly cheap, molasses-based spirits—hardly the kind to be taken seriously by international connoisseurs. But Camikara is changing that. Produced by Piccadily Agro Industries, the brand is putting India on the global rum map with a product that rivals the best.

Camikara follows the Rhum Agricole method, a style that originated in the French Caribbean and is revered among rum enthusiasts. By using only fresh cane juice and ageing it without additives, Camikara delivers a bold, complex flavour profile that’s both refined and rooted in Indian terroir.

“This win is not just a medal—it’s a moment of pride for India,” said Shalini Sharma, Head of Marketing at Piccadily Agro Industries.
“Camikara was born out of a belief that India could create world-class spirits rooted in its own land and legacy. We’re not just making rum—we’re making history.”

What the Gold Medal Means

The Rum & Cachaça Masters, hosted by The Spirits Business, is considered one of the toughest competitions in the spirits world. Judged by an expert panel of industry veterans, the contest evaluates hundreds of entries from leading rum-producing nations. To win a Gold Medal here is to be officially recognised as a spirit of outstanding quality, taste, and craftsmanship.

For Camikara, it’s more than a medal. It’s validation. It’s proof that India can not only participate but excel in a space dominated by older, more established rum cultures.

More Than Just a Drink—A Movement

Camikara isn’t just about the rum—it’s about reshaping perceptions. In a world where premium Indian whisky has made headlines, Camikara is spearheading the rum renaissance in India. It’s pushing boundaries, starting conversations, and creating a new premium category of Indian alcohol that never existed before.

By doing so, it’s reviving India’s forgotten legacy in sugarcane distillation, reminding the world that we’ve always had the ingredients—we just needed a bold vision to put them together.

So the next time you raise a glass of rum, make it Camikara. Because behind every pour is the story of a new India—bold, proud, and world-class.
