Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo-starrer, Wicked, won Golden Globes for Cinematic And Box Office Achievement.
January 2025 also brings with red carpet season. The upcoming seasons couture trends are all set to be showcased at these galas. Golden Globes 2025, for instance, was witness to the cyclic nature of fashion and style with archival and vintage pieces being sashayed.
Ariana Grande in a vintage Givenchy emanated an unmistakable Audrey Hepburn aura. She was nominated for her role as Glinda in Wicked.
At the same time, Zendaya’s tangerine gown with a retro wave hairstyle was a homage to Joyce Bryant, an African American singer who rose to fame in the 1940s and 50s. Zendaya was nominated for her role as Tashi Duncan in Challengers.
A powder blue satin column gown by Prada had Selena Gomez look like a modern-day Cinderella. The recently engaged singer, actor and producer was nominated for two Golden Globes for her work in Emilia Pérez and Only Murders In The Building.
Another archival piece that was spotted on the red carpet was the pink slip dress from the house of Dior, dressing the delicately-featured Anya Taylor Joy who channelled this century’s glamourous flapper girl.
Unafraid to move away from the madding crowd, Cate Blanchett opted to re-wear her Cannes 2024 look—a custom gold Louis Vuitton gown with a cape-style bodice encrusted with gold micro-glass beads. Reports say that the gown took 1200 hours of work and 15 Lbs (approx. 6Kg) of beads; this deserves more than one red carpet outing! The overall look is a blend of 1920s aesthetic with a modern approach.
Making heads turn with a pixie avatar at Golden Globe Award 2025 was Emma Stone. She too wore a custom Louis Vuitton. The striking red strapless column gown
Elle Fanning is renowned for her ultra-feminine and romantic silhouettes that hark back to an era bygone. Golden Globes 2025 was no different, she wore a champagne-hued ball gown by Balmain. The little quirk and sass was the use of leopard print at the bust detailing of the strapless gown. She wore a matching Panthère neckpiece and bracelet by Cartier.
Although many male celebrities opted for less formal looks for their red carpet attendance, we were thrilled to see Daniel Craig and Jeff Goldblum pull off a contemporary but formal approach to the classic suit and tuxedo. The former’s Giorgio Armani three-piece suit looked like a comfortable take on a classic–in a way, Craig continued method dressing for his character William Lee from Queer at the Golden Globes red carpet. He was nominated for the film as well.
Jeff Goldblum latter’s rhinestone-studded teal and black tuxedo adorned with lapel pins by De Beers added fun to the traditional tuxedo; it was also a throwback to the retro tuxedos from the 1960s and 70s.
Shōgun actor and winner of Golden Globes Hiroyuki Sanada aced the classic tuxedo. His was from Ralph Lauren.
GenZ heartthrob, Adam Brody of Nobody Wants This fame, took a page from the yesteryears Hollywood glamour for his Golden Globes 2025 look. He opted for a dark green double-breasted tuxedo by Prada (brownie points for colour-coordinating with wife Leighton Meester’s green gown). He was nominated Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series — Musical or Comedy for his character.
