World Art Day 2026: The Rise Of Art-Led Luxury Hotels

With art tourism on the rise, travellers are turning to immersive, design-led hotels where creativity shapes every stay

A recent milestone in India’s art story saw Yashoda and Krishna by Raja Ravi Varma fetch a record Rs 167.2 crore at a Saffronart auction, an outcome that signals a resurgent global interest in Indian art and heritage. That same energy is spilling into travel, where art-led journeys are fast becoming one of luxury’s most culturally engaged segments.

Hotels, in turn, are evolving into living galleries – spaces where art is not merely displayed, but embedded into the very fabric of the stay. From tightly curated collections and artist residencies to architecture that tells its own story, travellers are increasingly drawn to environments that feel immersive, extending the sensibility of an art fair well beyond its walls. Industry trends reflect a growing appetite for design-forward, culturally rich hospitality that offers more than just a place to stay.

This World Art Day, we spotlight three luxury destinations where art defines the experience. Whether shaped by site-specific installations or rooted in layered heritage, these stays transform a holiday into a continuous dialogue with culture.

The Londoner, London

The Londoner seamlessly blends hospitality with artistic expression. Set in the heart of Leicester Square, it operates as a vibrant cultural hub, pairing contemporary design with thoughtfully curated art. The hotel houses a permanent exhibition in collaboration with The National Gallery and Serpentine Galleries, bringing museum-calibre works into an immersive, lived-in setting. Guests will see striking hand-painted murals by En Viu Studio, alongside distinctive sculptural pieces by Zachary Eastwood-Bloom.

Artful storytelling continues in the rooms, where playful details, such as cleverly redacted letters from notable public figures, add a touch of personality.

Beyond aesthetics, the hotel offers curated cultural access, with discounted tickets to events like London Fashion Week and sought-after West End productions such as Macbeth, making it as culturally engaging as it is luxurious.

Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel, France

On the French Riviera, the Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel stands as a landmark where heritage and art have long converged. Following a major restoration completed in 2023, the property has re-emerged as a contemporary cultural destination, showcasing an extensive collection of nearly 2,000 curated works by In’Art, founded by Sylvie Amigo-Soulet. Spanning ceramics, glass, photography, and painting, the collection is seamlessly woven into suites, corridors, and public spaces, allowing art to unfold naturally throughout the guest experience.

Reimagined under the direction of designer Tristan Auer, the hotel balances restored Belle Époque craftsmanship with a refined modern sensibility. From the Grand Salon’s cinematic scale to light-filled spaces opening onto the Mediterranean, the property continues to operate as a cultural touchpoint where architecture, visual narrative, and Riviera glamour intersect. It sits comfortably within the region’s wider art and festival ecosystem, while initiatives such as the Carlton Kids Society extend this creative ethos to younger guests through culture-led programming inspired by the Côte d’Azur.

JOALI Maldives, Maldives

This Michelin Key-recognised ultra-luxury resort in the Maldives is the country’s first art-immersive island resort. The resort’s curated collection of interactive artworks and over 60 bespoke art installations sees an imaginative dialogue between global art forms and local influences. Several installations at JOALI Maldives are larger than life and prominently placed across the island, reflecting its philosophy of  the ‘joy of living’ through liveable, interactive art.

Created in collaboration with globally acclaimed artists and artisans, including Porky Hefer’s life-sized treetop manta ray, which guests can climb into for an intimate dining experience, the installations invite both engagement and exploration.

At Mura Bar, ceramic stools by Reinaldo Sanguino are crafted with mud from the rivers of the Guiana Highland region inspired by the fabled table-top Tepuis mountains of Venezuela and the forms of heritage hour glasses, absorbing the island’s warmth and the stories of those who pause to sit.

The Art Studio hosts daily workshops led by resident and visiting artists, allowing guests to create, learn and engage directly with the creative process whereas the Artist-in-Residence programme and ongoing global collaborations, bring international and regional creatives to the island to co-create, exhibit, and engage with guests.
