Rahul Mishra Brings Star Power To Paris Haute Couture Week With Olandria Carthen

Called as a pilgrimage in couture, Mishra’s Spring 2026 show ‘Alchemy’ showcased at Paris, reflects on the concept of Panchabhuta, the five fundamental elements that constitute life with creations centered around their shape, form and properties

For Indian couturier Rahul Mishra, the amalgam of science and philosophy often translates into otherworldly creations. Year after year, his Paris Haute Couture Week shows are a testament to that discerningly artistic brilliance. From FW25 ‘Becoming Love’ where he portrayed the seven stages of love, diving into realms of Sufism, to SS25 ‘The Pale Blue Dot’, reflecting on personal grief and climate change, Mishra’s collections often make us revisit ancient wisdom with a renewed lens.

This time for his Spring 2026 show ‘Alchemy’ showcased at Paris Haute Couture Week, Mishra probed the transience of what constitutes life: the air (vayu) we breathe, the cosmic vastness of sky (akasha), the transformational force of fire (agni), the constantly in motion yet adaptable to any form it takes, water (apas) and the ledger of memories where various life forms interact, the earth.

“The elements that once burned within stars now circulate through breath, bone, and blood. All life forms are precise and fragile arrangements of elements. Ancient canonical text from the Indian subcontinent, the Rig Veda, speaks of this continuity through the idea of the panchabhuta—earth, water, fire, air, and space,” say the show notes, adding that life emerges only when these forces gather in fine balance rather than overwhelm the other, disturbing the harmony.

The designs are stunningly aligned with the inspiration rooted in Panchabhuta: The five elements. Models walked the Paris runway, strutting shimmery bodysuits in abstract forms mirroring the shapeless water. Balloon dresses, a nod to the lightness, movement and enormous strength of air floated on the ramp with effortless style. Flaming orange outerwear in asymmetrical shape looked like dancing flame, while bodycon in striped patterns of beige, white and blue mimicked the sedimentary features of earth. Beyond the designs, the highlight of the show was Love Island USA star Olandria Carthen who opened for Mishra in a ‘Heart Of Gold’ sculptural mini dress embellished with golden flip sequins and a chic boatneck.

The runway further looked bedazzling with Tanishq’s ‘Desert Diamonds’ collections bringing a spotlight to natural diamonds. The designs created in partnership with De Beers, featured nature-inspired sculptural forms and complemented Mishra’s poetic couture vision.

Rahul Mishra’s ‘Alchemy’ showcase is just the beginning of a long trail of Indian designers making their international presence felt this year such as Gaurav Gupta at Paris Haute Couture Week, and Raw Mango’s London Fashion Week debut.
