Customisation is a significant business when it comes to luxury vehicles, and the ability to add that final personal touch enhances the whole character of the car. A decent paint job is a rather distinctive method to make the car’s presence felt on the road; it surely attracts a second look. Bentley has unveiled its most vivid finish yet, Ombré by Mulliner, which is a blend of two hues that move up the sides and roof of the car. Derived from the French term ‘ombrer,’ which means ‘to shade’, this is a technique of blending colours from light to dark, or vice versa, to create a gradient effect.
The New Colour
Bentley Motors has revealed Ombre by Mulliner, one of its most complex paint offerings to date, with a hand-applied fade finish that blends two colours across the length of the car in the Flying Spur. Created at Bentley’s Dream Factory in Crewe, the process begins with the car sprayed in contrast colours to the front and rear before a blend is applied in stages using paint tinted through traditional mixing methods, and takes 60 hours to achieve the perfect colour.
The new Flying Spur’s paint transitions from vibrant Topaz Blue at the front, to darker Windsor Blue rear, with the fade occurring through the mid- section of the car across the doors, sills and roof. The process takes nearly 60 hours for two highly skilled paint technicans to complete, and starts with the spraying of individual colours at the front and rear of the body. The transition happens across the centre of the car and is applied in stages, using pain that has been tinted using traditional mixing methods to achieve the Ombré effect.
Interiors
This colour is now available in two additional options – Sunburst Gold to Orange Flame, and Tungsten to Onyx. As each paint reacts differently on application, this will mean each car will be different but appear same when looked at. Coming to the interiors of the Flying Spur where clients can choose between a high-resolution touch screen, a veneer-covered panel, or a set of three analogue dials, including a clock, outside temperature gauge, and compass, for the vehicle’s centre console. Topaz Blue, and Windsor Blue layout can be found on the centre console, he hand stitched steering wheel, the side leather panels, and the rear seats.
Engine Options
On the engine side, it gets three engine options – a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 producing 542 bhp and 770 Nm of torque, a 2.9-litre turbo-petrol V6 hybrid produces 544 bhp and 750 Nm, and lastly a 6.0-litre W12 petrol engine producing 635 bhp and 900 Nm of torque.
The Ombré Flying Spur made it debut as part of Bentley’s presence at the Southampton International Boat Show, that started on 19th September and will go on until 28 September. The car succeeds Continental GT that debuted at this years The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering as part of Monterey Car Week.
