There are automobiles that transport, and then there are automobiles that transform. With the launch of the all new V-Class in India, Mercedes-Benz has chosen the latter ambition. In a nation long enamoured of towering flagship SUVs as emblems of prosperity, the V Class arrives like a velvet gloved revolution, whispering that true luxury need not loom; it may lounge. Configured exclusively in an extra long wheelbase stretching 5370mm with a commanding 3430mm wheelbase, this six seat sanctuary does not merely offer space, it consecrates it.

The V Class inaugurates a petrol powertrain in India for the first time

The V Class inaugurates a petrol powertrain in India for the first time, pairing a 170 kW engine producing 228 bhp with a 15 kW mild hybrid system, while a robust 174 kW diesel variant delivering 233 bhp stands ready for those loyal to compression ignition. Both are allied to the imperious 9G TRONIC transmission, ensuring progress that is as silken as it is assured. Yet power here is not about velocity alone; it is about composure. The AIRMATIC air suspension, specifically calibrated for Indian road conditions, confers a ride quality that seems to edit out the imperfections of tarmac. Notably, India becomes the first global market to offer AIRMATIC on both petrol and diesel derivatives, a detail that underscores the country’s growing primacy in Mercedes Benz’s strategic imagination.

Step inside and one encounters not a cabin but a curated environment. The six seat layout is anchored by first class individual seats in the second row, replete with three stage ventilation, massage, calf support, deployable cupholders and wireless charging. The third row performs a minor miracle by offering ventilated seats, a segment first, accompanied by three point seat belts, ISOFIX anchorage and USB ports. Even the front occupants are indulged with electrically adjustable ventilated seats featuring cushion length adjustment, transforming the cockpit into a command centre of cultivated calm.

The ambience is orchestrated with almost operatic flourish. Sixty four colour ambient lighting bathes the interior in bespoke hues, while the Burmester surround sound system with Dolby Atmos delivers 640 watts through 15 loudspeakers, converting the V Class into a travelling concert hall. THERMOTRONIC climate control, heat insulating glass with sunblind and the ENERGIZING Comfort programme with ten wellness modes, complete with nature soundscapes, elevate the notion of mobility into multisensory therapy. Electric sliding doors on both sides and an electrically operable split tailgate ensure that practicality is not sacrificed at the altar of opulence. Visually, the AMG Line exterior with star pattern radiator grille, LED light strip, 18 inch AMG alloy wheels and MULTIBEAM LED headlamps with 84 individually controllable LEDs per module, lends the V Class a presence that is assertive yet urbane. Five exterior hues including Metallic Sodalite Blue and Obsidian Black complement interiors trimmed in Lugano leather in beige or black.

V-Class in India, reaffirming a three decade commitment to the market and positioning the vehicle

Safety, that indispensable pillar of modern luxury, is addressed with seven standard airbags extending from A to D pillar, Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Assist, a 360 degree camera and a driver camera with ATTENTION ASSIST. In its segment, it stakes a credible claim to being the safest offering available. Crucially, Mercedes Benz will commence local production of the V-Class in India, reaffirming a three decade commitment to the market and positioning the vehicle not as an exotic import but as an invested presence. In doing so, the V-Class mounts a courteous yet unmistakable challenge to flagship SUVs. For the discerning elite and affluent families who value privacy, serenity and a sense of personal domain, this is not simply another vehicle. It is a private suite in motion, a declaration that luxury need not dominate the road to command respect; it need only redefine it.
