At the recently concluded Lakmē Fashion Week, held in collaboration with the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), Anamika Khanna set the tone for the season with her AK|OK showcase – presenting a collection defined by effortless style, versatility, and an understated sense of confidence.

The showcase was less about rigid styling and more about possibility. The clothes were designed to be worn in different ways – layered, reworked, and lived in. There was a natural fluidity to the line-up, where structured ideas gave way to movement and comfort. Draped dhoti pants, offbeat asymmetric tops, relaxed co-ord sets and sweeping gowns came together in a wardrobe that didn’t ask for occasion so much as it created one.
What stood out was how effortlessly the pieces shifted between the everyday and the expressive. In a way, it was fashion that understood modern life merging versatility with creativity.

Celebrating Imperfection

Beneath the surface, the collection carried a more introspective note. There was a recurring idea of things being slightly out of place and finding beauty in that dissonance. Like a flower growing where it shouldn’t, these garments embraced irregularity. Hand-painted textures, raw edges and deliberate imperfections gave the clothes an emotional depth, turning what might traditionally be seen as flaws into something worth celebrating.

The detailing reflected this philosophy. Asymmetry, unfinished hems and soft distortions were central to the design language. Floral motifs appeared in bold, almost instinctive forms, sitting alongside intricate handwork, including 3-D embroidery and touches of gold zari. The result was a layered visual story, one that moved between delicacy and strength without settling fully into either.

A Subtle, Thoughtful Palette

Colour played its part quietly but effectively. The palette moved from muted ecrus and earthy browns into dusty pinks and eventually deep blacks.
Introducing Menswear To AK|OK
Another notable shift this season was the introduction of menswear into the AK|OK space. Rather than feeling like an add-on, it extended the same design thinking – relaxed silhouettes, considered detailing and an understated edge, offering pieces that felt modern without trying too hard.

Speaking about the collection, Anamika Khanna said, ‘Our new collection celebrates Indian women in all shapes and sizes, and we have also focused on sustainability in fashion through our carefully selected fabrics, colours and crafts. This season, we are presenting a line of fluid garments through flattering silhouettes and glamorous finish for occasion wear and red carpet looks. The newest addition is our statement-worthy menswear range, which is a perfect add for a modern men’s wardrobe.’
