There are expensive cars, there are luxury cars, and then there is the Rolls-Royce Phantom. The Phantom has never been bought by people who ask the price, compare finance deals or worry about depreciation. It is the sort of motor car that quietly sits outside stately homes, embassies and private estates, carrying generations of wealth rather than merely their owners. It isn’t designed to impress the neighbours because, quite frankly, the neighbours probably own helicopters. A Phantom is inherited as often as it is purchased, becoming part of a family’s story in much the same way as a country house, a vintage yacht or a priceless painting. It represents the kind of wealth that doesn’t shout because it has absolutely nothing left to prove.

And yet, even within the extraordinary world of Phantom ownership, there exists another level entirely. This is the realm of one-off commissions, where a single customer can ask Rolls-Royce to transform personal memories, landscapes and passions into something no one else on Earth will ever own. It is here that craftsmanship overtakes manufacturing, where artists replace designers and where time itself becomes almost irrelevant. The new Phantom Regatta is perhaps one of the finest examples of this philosophy. Inspired by the legendary sailing culture of England’s south coast, the racing yachts of the Solent, the elegance of Cowes Week and the waters that Sir Henry Royce himself admired from nearby West Wittering, this one-of-one Phantom Extended is less a motor car and more a handcrafted love letter to Britain’s maritime heritage. It doesn’t merely reference the sea. It captures its colours, its movement, its craftsmanship and even its geography, proving once again that when Rolls-Royce builds a Bespoke commission, the result is never simply a car. It is rolling art.

The Phantom Regatta begins with the magnificent proportions of the Phantom Extended

The Exterior Wears The Colours Of Britain’s Coastline

The Phantom Regatta begins with the magnificent proportions of the Phantom Extended, a silhouette that already possesses the quiet confidence of a luxury yacht moored in a private marina. Its exterior is finished in a breathtaking two-tone treatment, with the upper body painted in a rich Regatta Blue and the lower half dressed in elegant English White. The hand-laid coachline separating the two colours mirrors the precise point where the hull of a classic racing yacht meets the sea, instantly establishing the maritime inspiration without becoming theatrical. Completing the exterior are 22-inch fully polished disc wheels, their mirror-like finish recalling the gleaming stainless steel winches found aboard handcrafted sailing yachts. It is a subtle nod that only Rolls-Royce could execute with such restraint, making the Phantom appear as though it belongs equally on the driveway of a country estate or beside the docks at Cowes Week.

The Cabin Feels More Like A Handcrafted Yacht Than A Limousine

Open the signature coach doors and the Phantom Regatta immediately

Open the signature coach doors and the Phantom Regatta immediately transports its occupants from the road to the water. The front cabin is upholstered in deep Navy Blue leather, representing the darker depths of the sea, while the rear sanctuary is finished in elegant Grace White leather, inspired by the pristine canvas sails and foaming wake of a racing yacht under full sail. Rolls-Royce has carefully intertwined both colours throughout the interior, from the contrast stitching and seat piping to the leather-wrapped steering wheel itself. Even the iconic RR monograms embroidered into the headrests receive a bespoke finish in Turchese, echoing the brilliant turquoise tones of clear coastal waters. The entire cabin feels calm, sophisticated and impossibly expensive, as though someone has distilled the atmosphere of a luxury sailing yacht into automotive form.

A V12 That Moves Like The Tide

Beneath all the nautical artistry and handcrafted luxury lies one of the last great automotive engines

Beneath all the nautical artistry and handcrafted luxury lies one of the last great automotive engines. The one-off Rolls-Royce Phantom Regatta is powered by the marque’s legendary 6.75-litre twin turbocharged V12, an engine that has become as synonymous with effortless refinement as the Spirit of Ecstasy itself. Producing 563 horsepower (571 PS) and an immense 900 Nm of torque, it delivers its performance with almost eerie serenity, never hurried, never dramatic, simply immense power served with impeccable manners. Mated to a silky smooth ZF eight-speed automatic transmission, the V12 seems to anticipate the road ahead, selecting gears so seamlessly they become virtually imperceptible. Like a beautifully crafted sailing yacht carried effortlessly by a favourable wind, the Phantom Regatta glides rather than drives, reminding you that true luxury has never been about speed alone, but about making every journey feel completely effortless.

The Woodwork Is A Masterclass In Patience

Most manufacturers install wooden trim. Rolls-Royce creates furniture worthy of a royal residence. Throughout Phantom Regatta, the cabin is adorned with Piano Milori veneer paired with Open Pore Royal Walnut, both hand-finished in a soft satin sheen that allows the natural character of the timber to remain visible. Yet the true masterpiece lies within the rear picnic tables. Requiring approximately 120 hours of painstaking craftsmanship, each table recreates the deck of a classic Runabout yacht using 16 individual Royal Walnut planks, every one cut from precisely the same section of timber to ensure perfectly matching grain. These wooden planks are meticulously laid by hand from the centre outward in a symmetrical bookmatched pattern before being separated by impossibly fine two-millimetre strips of Black Bolivar wood, replicating the caulking lines traditionally found between teak decking aboard luxury yachts. It is woodworking elevated to an almost obsessive level of perfection.

The Dashboard Is Not Decorated. It Is Painted

Modern luxury cars often boast large digital displays stretching across their dashboards.

Modern luxury cars often boast large digital displays stretching across their dashboards. Rolls-Royce, naturally, takes an entirely different approach. Dominating the width of the cabin is the celebrated Gallery, housing a unique hand-painted artwork known simply as Watercolour. Created by one of Rolls-Royce’s own artists using specially developed paints applied directly onto an open-pore wooden substrate, the artwork captures the constantly shifting movement of the sea. Achieving this effect required the development of an entirely new painting technique, refined over two weeks across numerous test panels until the artist successfully recreated the fluid motion, depth and translucency of coastal waters. The result transforms the dashboard into a permanent piece of maritime art rather than merely another decorative panel.

Even The Stars Follow The Sea

Above the passengers unfolds one of Rolls-Royce’s most mesmerising creations. The bespoke Starlight Headliner contains 1,307 individually hand-placed fibre optic lights, yet instead of depicting the night sky, their arrangement traces the swirling tidal currents surrounding the Isle of Wight. It is an extraordinarily poetic interpretation, turning invisible ocean movements into a celestial display overhead. Complementing this ethereal ceiling are the illuminated coach doors, bathing the cabin in a warm ambient glow that makes every journey feel more like boarding a private yacht than entering a motor car. It is precisely this level of imagination that separates Rolls-Royce from every other luxury manufacturer on Earth.

The Smallest Detail May Be The Cleverest

. Separated by barely a mile, these two hidden inscriptions quietly anchor the Phantom Regatta

The finest craftsmanship often hides where almost nobody thinks to look. In Phantom Regatta, the beautifully machined circular eyeball air vents conceal one final secret. Tilt either vent forward and a discreet engraving appears. The passenger-side vent carries the precise geographical coordinates of Goodwood House, while the driver’s side reveals those of the Home of Rolls-Royce. Separated by barely a mile, these two hidden inscriptions quietly anchor the Phantom Regatta to the landscape where it was imagined, commissioned and handcrafted. It is the sort of wonderfully unnecessary detail that serves no practical purpose whatsoever, which is perhaps the purest expression of true luxury.

The Finest Rolls-Royces Are Built Around Stories, Not Specifications

The Phantom Regatta is proof that Rolls-Royce has long stopped competing

The Phantom Regatta is proof that Rolls-Royce has long stopped competing with other car manufacturers. It competes instead with master watchmakers, yacht builders, furniture artisans and fine artists. This is not a machine created to post lap times or dominate horsepower charts. It exists to preserve memories, celebrate craftsmanship and transform deeply personal passions into rolling works of art. Every surface, every stitch, every brushstroke and every hidden engraving tells part of a story that belongs to one individual alone. That is why the Phantom has remained the ultimate symbol of generational wealth for more than a century. It isn’t simply bought. It is commissioned, cherished and eventually passed on, carrying with it something far more valuable than money. It carries legacy.
