There is a particular kind of anniversary gift that only a 250-year-old watchmaker could conceive of giving itself: not a new complication, not a new case shape, but a dial pattern that maps the very street where the whole story began. To mark its quarter-millennium, Breguet has looked back at the Île de la Cité in Paris, at the Quai de l’Horloge where Abraham-Louis Breguet once ran his workshop and produced the marine chronometers that gave this very collection its name, and has translated the contours of that island, and the neighbouring Île Saint-Louis, into a hand-guilloché motif that also, rather elegantly, doubles as the suggestion of waves. It is a design that manages to be both a geography lesson and a maritime reference at once, and it now sits at the heart of two reimagined watches: the time-only Marine 5517 and the flyback chronograph Marine 5527. Both retain the codes that have defined the Marine line since its inception, Breguet numerals, apple hands, a rudder-shaped oscillating weight, while wrapping them in a dial that is, quite literally, drawn from the Maison’s own address.
Marine 5517: The Essentials, Perfectly Balanced
The most refined expression of the collection, the 5517 is a pure three-hand watch, with the date newly relocated to 6 o’clock to reinforce the dial’s symmetry. The “Quai de l’Horloge” guilloché is hand-executed on a gold base treated to create varying shades, then finished with a layer of lacquer for depth, arriving in ice blue on the white gold model, black on the pink gold model, and a graduated blue on the titanium version, with a gold Breguet applique at 12 o’clock across all three. The seconds hand’s tip forms the letter “B,” a nod to the “Bravo” maritime signal flag, while the crown guard echoes the movement of waves, and the gold oscillating weight, shaped like a rudder, is visible through the sapphire caseback.
The case measures 40mm in diameter with a 47.7mm lug-to-lug length and stands 11.50mm thick, offered in 18K white gold, 18K rose gold or titanium, each with a fluted middle case, screw-down crown, double anti-reflective sapphire on the dial side and single anti-reflective on the back, rated to 10 bar (100m) of water resistance. The hour ring carries Breguet Arabic numerals in a shade matched to the case metal, with luminescent Breguet hour and minute hands, and the watch displays hours, minutes, seconds and the date. Power comes from the Calibre 777A, a numbered and signed movement just 4.3mm thick and 33mm in diameter (15 lines), self-winding with a 55-hour power reserve, running at 4 Hz with a silicon spiral, and available on either a rubber strap echoing the dial’s guilloché pattern or a matching metal bracelet with a 3-blade folding clasp.

Marine Chronograph 5527: Sportier, With a Flyback Function
More sportif in character, the 5527 brings a flyback chronograph function to the same design language. A large central hand measures the seconds, while two counters positioned between 3 and 9 o’clock display chronograph minutes and small seconds respectively, an architecture chosen to preserve legibility while adding a livelier rhythm to the dial. The gold dial carries the same “Quai de l’Horloge” hand-guilloché work, here rendered in a blue gradient on the white and rose gold versions and a grey gradient on the titanium model, with the date once again placed at 6 o’clock for balance and a gold Breguet applique at 12. The maritime references continue throughout: the central chronograph hand forms the “B” of the Bravo flag, the crown evokes waves, and the rudder-inspired gold oscillating weight is visible on the back.
The case grows to 42.3mm in diameter with a 50.7mm lug-to-lug length and 13.9mm thickness, again offered in 18K white gold, 18K rose gold or titanium, with the same fluted middle case, screw-down crown, double anti-reflective sapphire on the dial side, single anti-reflective on the back, and 10 bar (100m) of water resistance. The watch displays hours, minutes, the flyback chronograph and the date, powered by the Calibre 582QA, a numbered and signed movement with the flyback function, 6.5mm thick and 30mm in diameter (13½ lines), self-winding with a 48-hour power reserve, running at 4 Hz with a silicon spiral and a silicon inverted anchor. As with the 5517, it comes on a rubber strap featuring the “Quai de l’Horloge” motif or on a matching metal bracelet.
Between the two, Breguet has effectively split its anniversary tribute into a study in restraint and a study in rhythm, one collection pared to its essentials, the other animated by a flyback complication, but both anchored by the same guilloché map of a Parisian island that started it all 250 years ago.
