In the intricate vocabulary of watchmaking, few complications possess the quiet utility and cosmopolitan charm of the GMT. Short for Greenwich Mean Time, the GMT complication was originally devised to help travellers, pilots and global professionals track multiple time zones simultaneously. At its essence, the mechanism introduces an additional hand that circles the dial once every 24 hours, working in tandem with a rotating bezel or a dedicated scale to display a second time zone. The result is deceptively simple yet mechanically elegant: a watch capable of anchoring its wearer to home time while effortlessly charting the hour in distant cities. Against this backdrop of technical heritage and contemporary innovation, Outlook Luxe turns its attention to five remarkable GMT watches that define the landscape in 2026. From iconic classics to cutting edge interpretations, these timepieces represent the pinnacle of travel ready horology for the serious collector.
The brilliance of the GMT complication lies in its functionality. While the conventional hour hand completes two revolutions in a day, the GMT hand moves at half that speed, completing one full rotation every twenty four hours. When paired with a bezel marked from one to twenty four, this hand enables the wearer to track another time zone at a glance. Some advanced variations allow the local hour hand to jump independently, making them particularly prized by frequent travellers who move across continents with regularity. What began as a tool for aviation professionals has, over the decades, evolved into a cornerstone of luxury watchmaking. Today, the GMT complication embodies both practicality and prestige, appearing in timepieces that range from rugged travel companions to exquisitely finished haute horlogerie statements.

Armin Strom Dual Time GMT Resonance Rose Gold

The 39mm rose gold softens the polished surfaces and sharp bevels while preserving the signature features: a bezel lip at 6 o’clock, twin crowns at 4 o’clloci and 8 o’clock for independent time zone adjustment, and sapphire crystals on both sides with AR treatment. On the dial side, the design is instantly recognisable but visually distinct. The two time displays are in black gold grenage, framed by black azurage chapter rings, and each dial has engraved and mirror-polished day/night indicators at 6 o’clock. Rose gold-colored hour markers and polished hour and minute hands finish the design. In the upper part, the two balance wheels oscillate in clear view, coupled by Armin Strom’s resonance clutch spring. The etched and mirror-polished day/night indications for the sun and moon are located at 6 o’clock on each dial. The watch is powered by the manufacturing calibre ARF22, which is a manual-winding movement designed fully in-house. The movement has two independent gear trains and regulating mechanisms, synchronised by resonance, functioning at 25,200 vibrations/hour (3.5Hz) with a 42-hour power reserve.
